What an interesting batch of thoughtful comments! Thank you, everyone who had a suggestion. I am presently shuffling through the various ideas, seeing what clicks. The Kelparies aren't going anywhere, after all.

BTW, when looking at various suggestions, I thought I noticed something. When I look at the male version of anyone's suggested changes (or at my own original design), the wings seem to be a lighter/yellower color than the wing color of the exact same design seems on the female version.

Is anybody else seeing this?

Oh, yeah, and I originally tried to work some purple/lavender into the design, but I just couldn't seem to make it work. I think I may give it another go, however.

I'm trying to replicate, as much as possible, the real maireener's iridescent colors. To do this, I think what I have to do is create a delicate balance of colors on the Kelpari's body--not too different, but also not too similar, either.

It's a work in progress.

I gave the purple/lavender another try, but it just did not work out. The adjustments ended up being subtle, as I was afraid of overworking the idea.

I'm still iffy on the pink, but I think they look gorgeous!
