The people of the kingdom were gathering around the palace.
But on closer inspection, they were actually just shadows.
The Previous Lord of the Void was sitting on a ledge,
which was above the Palace

I held my breath, my stomach churning at the scene before me. I turned my head away my heart pounding. The eerie warning repeated over and over in my head. Don't trust the one who communes with the shadows.But who is the one? I thought as I flew away the soft clouds brushing against my pelt.
