(Freya: Distract with lizard, trustworthiness 1000)

Basic Charisma check - moderate success

The woman eyes you with suspicion, but marks an X on the ledger in place of the name. "...Right. Please be aware that if your companion fails to make the payment by the time the sun has fully risen, it will be charged to you, instead."

The lizard shoots you a matching beady-eyed look, but scampers back onto the desk in front of you--only to stop abruptly at you calling it 'cute'. It drops the keys on the ledger, out of your reach, and turns back to hiss at you.
The receptionist looks amused. "The lizard? Why, Mister Gadfly isn't mine by any means. Indeed, I believe he's been at this inn even longer than I have, and handles plenty of the upkeep of his own accord. And, ah, I don't believe he takes a liking to being called cute."

As it seems, perhaps you had best apologize to the lizard if you want those keys back.

A few minutes and a short flurry of activity later, your parents are out the door with a quick wave goodbye. With them gone, the house falls into silence save for the continuing patter of rain on the rooftop, and an already audible--to you, anyway--bustle of activity outside.

It seems you've been left to your own devices, but your parents were probably right--if you want to avoid the crowds, you too should probably be heading out soon. That is, unless there's anything you still wish to do at home, or if you want to wait longer to ensure your parents have gone as far away as possible.

(Ah yes, that is obviously how you make someone trust you 100%. Will work at all times, definitely)
"Alright. That seems fair. I'm sorry for calling you cute, Mister Gadfly." It felt weird to apologize to a lizard, but it had to be done. "She said she only had an errand to take care of, so she should be here soon." She said, quite nervously, hoping it wasn't showing on her face. Especially because she didn't have money on her.

Carter glanced around the house boredly. There didn't seem to be terribly much left to do, and she should be getting out soon. Might as well go now - she'd probably be heading in the opposite direction of her parents, anyways. Gathering her belongings, Carter darted out the door.

In the confusion, nobody pays much attention to the boy's small stall, which fortunately stays steady despite the nearby jostling and shouting. Despite--or perhaps thanks to--the amount of onlooking passerby, which has grown due to the ruckus, the thief seems to be evading capture. In fact, no one seems to have any idea of where they've even gone.

Suddenly, though, the child frantically taps you on the shoulder, pointing to the other end of the street. "Look, over there! I think I see the thief!" Before you can respond, he sprints off, weaving through and...away from the crowd? In fact, he seems to be headed in the opposite direction of the commotion, where there doesn't even appear to be anyone walking, let alone a fleeing thief in plain sight.

Basic Strength check - complete success! (rolled a 10/12 on that once, nice)

It's a bit of a challenge for even you to lift the pole and keep it steady--it would probably have been near impossible for the vendor to do it by herself. Fortunately, you manage to hold onto it long enough for the vendor to pass the other end of the awning to you, and between the two of you, you manage to properly set the cover up. Even if it is a bit crooked, it should be stable enough to not collapse on top of the stall. Alas, the both of you are now thoroughly soaked.

The vendor, at least, looks extremely relieved, dramatically feigning wiping sweat from her forehead. "Phew, thank goodness that worked. Really, I can't thank you enough for stopping by to help." She shrugs, giving a pole a good kick before pulling the cart to safety beneath the awning, apparently satisfied. "Well, the traders do get around everywhere, of course. But you can't really expect us smaller shops to compare to the ones who've got twenty people working on every project. We get in on some of the trading action, everyone does--there's more than enough to go around--but it's only to be expected that the biggest crafters end up with the biggest deals." She shakes her head wistfully. "How I would love to see what kinds of goods change hands there. I've heard rumours that one of the traders brought a phoenix's feather with them this time--imagine that!"

(fun fact: calden is now breathing manually)

My brow ruffed together as I thanked the child and headed after the thief, since no one else was doing so. What an odd thief, causing so much commotion they obviously can't be experienced, or perhaps not as small as I was when I made a living off of swiping things. Doesn't matter anyways, I thought to myself, focusing on getting the thief from now on.

"Sounds like it would be quite the rare find," Calden said. "I'm guessing you can't go and see it yourself because you have nobody else to man the stall?" The inconstant, random drops of water from the rain were a tiny bit annoying. "Oh, and do you need me to do anything else?"

(Calden: Is life truly a blessing?)
(I forgot how hard it is for me to characterize him)

(OMG oops xD)

I check my pockets, bag and anything to make sure the kid didn't pick-pocket me. If all is well, I go after the thief since there is no way I could catch the kid, and frankly I cared little.

If he did take something, I head after the kid full tilt.
