Poo Nicote, indeed :P
My 'outline' is just a bunch of brain vomit w/ holes in it and things I'm supposed to connect but I dunno how
But here it is, in white like it's going to get married
Warning: Very cringe and cliche
Mkay. So in this currently unnamed world of mine, every once in awhile kids are born with elemental abilities (cringe). It's more rare to have it than not. And it's not like just plain fire, water, shadow, etc. For example, if you have light, you might be able to heal people, or it might be different and you can do illusions instead. They usually all fall under an elemental category, though. And just because you're an elemental doesn't mean you don't have the qualities of normal people. A fire elemental might be more resistant to hot temperatures but can still be burned. And just because light makes it harder for shadow elementals to work their magic doesn't mean direct exposure to sunlight will make them physically weak. Even if you have an entire family of elementals, that doesn't necessarily mean you'll be one. And it's not as rare as you might think for an elemental to be born into a completely non-elemental family. You usually only find out around the age of 13 or so. Maybe later. Almost never earlier.
So, a looong time ago, there was a war that involved lots of elemental stuff, and more bad stuff, and the edges of the world broke. It's just, like, static from where you can see it, but if you actually walk into it, it's different. You see stuff that isn't there, and don't see stuff that is there, solid things aren't actually solid and vice versa. What's actually there is what used to be there before the war, but somehow the reality was altered and things move around all the time. You could take one step and get lost. Or walk forward but go in circles. And the air is poisonous or something and everyone dies within the first five minutes.
But the thing is, no one knows the war ever happened. They just now that there was some tragedy causing the edges to be like that. Why? Because a long time ago, the globe used to be whole, but divided into two halves separated by a small slice of the void. Before the war, in the other side, everyone was an elemental, and in this side, no one was. For some reason, the elementals were the only ones able to cross over without dying (although it was extremely difficult, and you'd feel like you had a terrible cold). And the war was on the other half of the world, and so somehow the void spread all across that side. But during the war, some people managed to flee to the other side. Remember, it was difficult for elementals, but not impossible. And so that's where the elementals now come from.
Meanwhile, there's a 'disease' going on that only affects non-elemental people. And every time someone realizes they've caught it (symptoms to be determined), there's always an elemental in close proximity. With the general rareness of elementals, this is a really weird coincidence and naturally people are blaming them for it. (Later, they learn that this 'disease' is actually coming from the broken edges of the world, it's the same thing that happens when you walk in there but slowed down somehow, and the elementals are carrying it.) Also, the government is 99% elementals and 1% non-elementals. So that's going to cause some problems in the future, but I'm not sure what. And by the way, there are these scientists trying to abduct elementals in order to find a way to prevent the disease, either by transferring their abilities to sick people (since the elementals themselves never seem to be affected by the disease)
Soooo, Jordan (named after the first chair clarinet, who is actually really sweet xD) is a person. (Woahhhhh) *ahem* He is an elemental (I haven't decided what type yet. Probably something similar to Dashiell's, which I don't wanna explain rn) and his mom, not an elemental gets sick and dies. And his dad is like "AGHHHH IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT" so naturally his reaction is to run away. Not like, with the intention of it being for a long time, but he just walks out in frustration. Then his younger sister, Rei(na), who is 10 years old and six years younger than him, is like "Hey! Where are you going! I wanna come too!" (Also, they're distant relatives of the Hatoris. Jordan has brown hair and green eyes, like Akio. Rei has red hair and green eyes, like Rowan, the sister no one has ever heard of but for some reason I keep giving her Cobalt's last name because it sounds better.) Jordan refuses to let her, but she comes anyways. Apparently their dad was so upset, he decided to give Jordan up to the scientists, so they come to apprehend him 10 minutes later, but like an idiot, he's trying to protect Rei and so they end up knocking him out with the equivalent of an electric shock thingy that only works on Elementals. Very painfully. He probably could've taken more of them down with him, but Rei ran away so he gave up. Rei finds Cedric? and is like "WAHHHHH MY BROTHER GOT ELECTROCUTED" and decides to actually run away because she's so upset. Meanwhile, Jordan wakes up, tries to find Rei, and falls on his face instead. Darya (light mending) is like, "Bruh get back back in bed you were clinically dead for like two minutes there" He's like wtf who are you go away and tries to shove her away using his ability but it isn't working right for some reason and he ends up passing out again instead. (Wow, great job.) He wakes up again and falls on his face again and Darya's like "Can you please not, I'm tired of fixing you" and she explains that her mother is a scientist and it's very convenient for them because she can fix any damage they did. Random stuff happens and then let's time skip to when Darya helps Jordan free a bunch of people and escape, but she stays behind because her mom's there and even though she doesn't like her mom very much, well, it's her mom. Jordan finds Rei (who is now hanging out with Cedric) and stuff happens, and then more stuff happens, and then at some point Darya makes the decision to join them, and then more stuff happens, and then they get attacked and they're all going to get caught and suddenly Rei is like "MWAHAHAHA I CAN SET RANDOM THINGS ON FIRE BY LOOKING AT THEM NOW" (fire sparking) which is really crazy since she's only 10 years old but, yay. So she sets everything on fire and freaks out because she can't control it and kills all of the people who were trying to capture accidentally and then somehow Jordan's like noooo and balances it out somehow and saves all of them from burning to death as well, so double yay, and then Rei is really sad because she killed a bunch of people but, ah well.
Oh and this entire time, everyone thinks Cedric has an ability but every time they bring it up he's all like "I don't wanna talk about it" so they all assume that, well, he doesn't want to talk about it, so they don't pressure him or anything but later he gets sick and everyone's like "SO YOU AREN'T AN ELEMENTAL" and he's like "I never said I was, I only wanted to go with you guys because my cousin (or some other relative) is sick" and it turns out he's actually from a rich family or something. And then more stuff happens and suddenly Rei gets sick and now everyone's freaking out because it's confirmed that she's an elemental, so how is she sick? (I... I'm actually not sure how she gets sick, I guess the disease is mutating or something). Darya says that if they announce to the world that Rei is sick, showing that the elementals aren't causing this, then maybe it will the clear the elementals' name (because at this point they're lynching elementals), but Jordan is stubborn and instead says that it's doubtful they'll even believe them, and what if they take Rei to run experiments and such on her?
I don't know what happens after this. But they eventually find out that before the great war thingy, everyone used to be elemental, but something happened. (Still not sure about this.) And at another later point, 3 years later, (probably another book), they're trying to find one of every element in order to fix the broken parts at the edges of the world, because... reasons. And then Jordan gets killed. But that's not until later.
