For a theme, you wouldn't have had to say the name and I would've said it was ocean/beach related. The luminous mane and pearl armor work really well for a beach theme.
I am kinda wondering personally though why C2 isn't some shade of black-to-white to make it look more like armor, vs a dark orange and almost like it's made of hide? Which would be neat but it seem off to me since it's almost in with the rest of the design colors? (this might be a me problem, I've seen a number of pearl armored kelpis that bugged me)
Hope you don't mind, but I adjusted C1 to be more sand-like and make the markings stand out, C2 could be anything in the black/grey/white range but I just when with white since your design is mostly light colors, and I also made M3 just barely more blue. I know it's supposed to be teal, but it looked odd/off with the other blue, the contrast was a bit much for me.
(However, if you go with mystic horns instead of luminous mane, the original teal for M3 looks pretty, there isn't nearly as much contrast.)
Also reading thru the comments here, I saw a suggestion to change G1 to make it stand out more, and thought maybe use the color from (the slightly less teal) M3 to pull it together?
(I hope you don't mind me tweaking your design colors like this! Also apologies for the late response, bad habit of leaving my pc on and taking naps oops)

Sorry, SpaceElf... I don't think I know enough about Kelpies to be much of a proper critic. >.<

With regard to the colors only, I liked the first ones you posted best. The pale hues give me a nice "seafoam" kind of impression. Also, I really like the pale colors of the Daisy Kelparis, and this reminds me of those shades. The Kelp Armor and Headdress are what I ended up liking most after the revamp, and those are the traits I'm working on for myself. But beyond that, I don't have much of an opinion about them.
I'm flattered that you wanted my input, though! ^.^

I like Savynny suggestions for the colors. You original design is a bit too pale for my liking.
In terms of traits I think the best armor to go with luminous hair is ornate armor. But I'm not a big fan of pearl armor in general, so that has maybe something to do with that.

Spelf, thanks for the heads up. I do love Kelp Armour now, it's delicate and bold. Pretty much how I view the Kelpari after the re-design.
Like Amarok and Savynn, I think the design might need a bit more contrast. (Although, I prefer bolder colours to pastels overall, so I might be very wrong here!) I liked Savynn's changes, but I personally find the blue on G1 is a bit too bold for your pastel design. Maybe take the colour lighter from your original design?
So (with Savynn's changes too):
You could also take the first colour slightly darker? Like Veshana and Deathdust suggested:
It still keeps it pastel enough hopefully, because I did like the overall idea a lot.
Just seen Namira's post (I really like her changes, but completely missed her post before I replied). I love the lighter colour on C2:
I think Namira's changes are probably more sympathetic to your original design.

Space its a very pretty design. but it think it is too yellowish and needs a wider range of colors like a little bit of purple. (maybe I'm just a purple fanatic)
I love the blue armor and the nebula wings. I dont like gene 3's color with gene 1. I feel like they clash

I think this design is gorgeous, Elf! I love the subtlety of the colours and how the pale creams and oranges of the traits work on the pink-brown of the body. It gives a real feeling of sandy beaches to the design. I'm also in love with the way the green blends with the sandy yellows of the fins. And that mane... the colour combination there is perfection~ I'm not so sold on the pearl armor, but I think that's because I'm pretty picky about pearl armor overall and only like it a lot on certain designs. Still, I think the colour choices for it are solid for a beach-type theme ^.^
While I like some of the colour ideas others have had, they don't strike me as having the same feeling of sandy beaches that your original design has. They would be nice for other design ideas, whereas I just can't get over the lovely way these colours just blend to give an overall impression, rather than each piece trying to stand out on its own ^.^
