He seemed to be sniffing the bottom of the pile, where the older prey were kept. He then pulled out a blackbird. There were shrews, birds and squirrels on the pile.

i'll take out a small shrew from the pile, and find a place to eat it

You didn't manage to see him, but you could still pick up his scent, zig zagging until it went around a tree and you lost it.

My ears flatten slightly and I duck into the medicine cat den and drop into the nest I have been using.

I nod at my mentors words and I head out. I try to find some prey scent. maybe that water vole or mouse that was around earlier.
