"And if yours dies, what happens to me?" Hitari says, continuing. He clearly enjoys talking about the potential ways things could go wrong. "Do I waste away with him? Are we banished to spirits, yet still bound?" He grins. "It's all so fascinating. If you're able to share anything common with yourself, Itami, I know scientific curiosity is something that leaps inside you."

I have no need for that kind of thing, Itami says, straining to keep his voice polite. But frankly, I think we both remember I'm an outlier.

"Yes, yes, fallen and worn right with your world," Hitari says, waving his hand. "Wasted potential. It's like the universe put everything it had to its other children and dumped the leftovers here." He glances at you with faint distaste. "Including its defenses, apparently. No alternate being should be able to move between universes."

Shiawase shifts, murmuring something quietly like she's beginning to stir. The cradle-basket, over the course of the past while, has slowly begun lowering her, dissolving as it goes; lying her down gently.

Rin hardens his gaze. It's everything he can do to keep from having a complete breakdown and doing something really, really stupid. He glances at Shiawase. Oh, great. Now of all times you decide to stir a little. Now would not be a particularly good time to wake up.....

Itami takes a microscopic step towards Shiawase, but doesn't take his eyes off Hitari. That's. . .great. How about we just talk about the futility of existence and the uselessness we all have then, hm?

"We don't need to discuss what we know to be true," Hitari says. The corner of his mouth twitches. "It'll all be gone, anyway."

Wonderful, Itami replies, stepping towards Shiawase again. And you suppose we will do nothing?

"Of course. You will try, yes, but that won't do anything."

This must end. I can feel him fading, Chaos mutters as they begin drifting towards the group - only to ram into some sort of barrier. . . .hm? What. . .is this?

I guess this is a new experience for us all, Itami says. Two of us from somewhere else, Shiawase asleep, and Zandaka gone -

Hitari raises his hand. "I've already said to not mention her. You really don't listen."

Oh, I do. I merely am curious as to why she is to never be brought up, Itami says, trying to sound innocent as possible.

"That's, ah. . ." The blackness in Hitari's eyes grow a bit as he looks at Itami darkly. ". . .none of your business, pal."

I wonder, Itami muses. "Hitari" means "loneliness", you know. Are you in a similar situation as he was, or are you hiding something? Something that could assist us?

Hitari's eyes narrow. "Are you calling me a liar, sir?"

Maybe.

Ah, I shouldn't have said that, Itami thinks, silently cursing himself out.

Rin shrinks away from Hitari, who looks about ready to kill them all. Great great great we haaaaaad to make the murder man from a different universe get ticked off. Thanks, Itami.

Eh, we're already pretty screwed. I suppose I can't make it any worse by pushing, Itami continues to think. Might as well try to get useless information.

It almost seems that many roles are. . .reversed between our worlds, he says, not knowing where he's rambling to. Could it be that Zan -

"Alright, that's enough." Almost too fast for your eyes to follow, it appears that Hitari throws something at Itami - the fact that Itami stumbles as a crystalline spike is driven into his forearm confirms it. "I've told you once, I've told you twice - "

That everything comes with a price, Itami whispers. What a song it is.

"And after all the things you said, you should've known how this would end," Hitari says, walking up to Itami. An identical crystal appears in his hand, and he brandishes it like a short dagger. "You've rolled your dice, and you lost your gamble."

It would appear so. Now, can you just kill me already? Itami tilts his head. Because, frankly, it seems like you keep stalling.

Rin's heart is racing. NOW here it comes. He hears Itami's wisecrack 'it seems to me you're just stalling' and smiles grimly despite his terror. 'I imagine the moments before death are worse than the event itself.' Somebody said that to me once, but I don't remember who. He glances back to Hitari. I don't know if I'm ready for this now..... but I've gotta try. It'll end in death one way or another. So I might as well face fate bravely. He clenches his fists hard, determined to stay calm if, in fact, he is going to die.

Itami grins. Well? You've had plenty of chances, and you're practically getting this one for free. Everyone's right here.

Hitari's eye twitches, and in a split second, Itami is writhing on the ground, the shard piercing through his chest, pinning him on the ground. "You are very lucky that I honor promises, you know? Otherwise this all would be gone by now - " He pauses to cough. " - not that it matters. Torture's. . .pretty fun."

That's - that's kind of. . .coincidental, Itami wheezes, somehow still able to talk. Hitari made a promise, too. He broke it quite a while back, though. Are you sure you'll abide by whatever you're bound to?

"I am certain," Hitari hisses as he crouches down to Itami's level, staring daggers into his eyes. "And should you ever accuse me of that again, I will literally bring you to the edge of the universe and leave you there."

Itami wisely shuts up.

Hitari straightens and turns to you. "Isn't it nice? Just. . .to not hear him for a moment?" Itami grumbles something, but returns to silence as Hitari glares at him. His dark eyes meet your gaze. "Now, let's figure out what kind of anomaly you are, hm? After all, you're most of the reason why everything's wrong, I would imagine."
