Rin wakes up suddenly, rubbing his head as he sits up. He notices Hitari. "Oh! He's awake," He says, looking at Hitari with fear in his eyes.

You don't say, Itami says, gradually approaching Hitari as he brandishes the stick. He woke up a little faster than what keeps me comfortable, so -

"No, wait - " Shiawase quickly gets in front of Itami. "I wanted to talk to him, remember? Besides, I doubt hitting him again would make your relationship better."

Itami lowers the branch. Fine, he mutters. But don't untie him. His mouth stays covered, too. Okay?

Shiawase looks puzzled. "But if his mouth stays bound, he can't talk."

Then keep it bound until a response is needed, Itami hisses. I don't want to hear his voice longer than I have to.

Hitari glances around warily. His vision is a bit blurry, but he can see Itami and Shiawase standing in front of him. They appear to be arguing; he doesn't know what about. Did it work? he thinks to himself. It must've. . .

Rin swallows hard, looking a little nervous but not really knowing what to do at the same time. Felix the owl flies down from his perch on the tree, effectively scaring the living daylights out of Rin.

Shiawase turns to Hitari, opening her mouth to speak, but only to close it. "I. . .haven't thought any of this through," she says sheepishly.

Itami stares at her. You. . .didn't think any of this through? You didn't think any of this through?! He pushes past her. Forget, I'm just knocking him out again. He didn't deserve this chance anyhow -

Hitari's eyes widen and he pushes against the bindings, which hold him fast. Oh, no-no-no-no-no, I'm not a fan of Itami running at me with a stick above his head -

"Itami, wait!" Shiawase shouts, grabbing the stick. Itami, unbalanced, staggers backwards. "He clearly isn't able to move. There's nothing to worry about!"

Rin watches the two, confused and slightly afraid. The scene of Itami nearly overbalancing would have been funny if not for the urgency of their current situation, although he has to admit a short rest was pretty much what he needed to keep him from COMPLETELY having a breakdown.

He just woke up! Itami shouts at Shiawase. Once he comes to his senses, we're good as dead!

"Great, so let me talk to him now!" Shiawase replies with an equal amount of loud anger. "We can get this all worked out!"

If we just dig a hole and chuck him in, that's the problem solved!

Hitari tries to protest, but his mouth being bound shut kind of inhibits that. Knife, knife, where's my knife, he thinks to himself. If I can get that, I can cut these stupid ropes. He tries shaking side-to-side to no avail. Why'd they tie these so - oh yeah.

Shiawase glances over her shoulder at Hitari, then turns back to Itami. "We are not harming him," she says firmly. "If you do, you're either hurting Hitari or angering the other, neither of which are productive!"

Fine, you know what - Itami tosses the stick far behind him. Go ahead. If he breaks free or something, I will do nothing. Like a pouting child, he walks back to the tree he was at previous and sits.

Hitari tries twisting his arm, attempting to reach his pocket - all that happens is him straining his shoulder and getting bruises from pushing against the rope. . . .at this point I'd rather cut these open the fun way, but that might send the wrong message. He relaxes and looks around again, seeing if there is anything useful around. His eyesight is still a bit muddled, but he can make out someone against the cliff face. . . .is that Kanashimi, Rin, or someone new? He sighs, a sound muffled through the rope. Not that it matters.

Rin agrees with Shiawase, although he doesn't dare voice his opinion. Well, that's helpful of you Itami, he thinks bitterly.

Shiawase walks over to Hitari. Leaning forward, she starts getting at the knot of the rope around Hitari's mouth. After a few minutes, it's clear that the knot is drawn too tight, as she seems to be getting frustrated. "Alright," she says as her knife pops into her hand. "I'm just going to cut it. Don't. . .don't move, or anything."

Hitari nods very slightly, but he doesn't raise his eyes to meet hers.

The snip of the rope breaking is audible, and it falls to rest on Hitari's shoulders.

"There we are. Now - "

"Please just untie me completely," Hitari says in a single, fast breath. "Just - please. You have no idea how many unpleasant memories - "

Oh, save the desperation, Itami growls. Be grateful you woke up at all.

Hitari lapses into silence, and stares at the ground. Glad to know he's still such a good guy, he thinks bitterly.
