"Not enough undergrowth for cover, no caves large enough to hide," Hitari mutters to himself. "And if they slunk into that house I certainly would have noticed. . ."
Shiawase probably had something - or somewhere - that would keep them safe, Itami says, trying to keep his voice nonchalant as he lifts the branch over his head. She was always one for puzzles and hidden things.
Hitari frowns. "Hidden things. Perhaps a keystone is - " Itami slams down on Hitari's head with the stick, hard as he can. Hitari crumples to the ground.
Huh. That actually worked. I guess he thought I wouldn't try something like that, Itami says to no one. He prods Hitari with his foot, to no response. Thank whatever lord watches this place.
Shiawase jumps a little. "Did you hear that thud? It was faint, but. . ." She cups her hand over the little light, darkening most of the cave. "It almost sounded like a collision of something."

. . .now what? Itami asks himself. I really didn't think this through. . . He grabs Hitari and hoists him into a sitting position, leaning his back against the cliff - his head knocks into the rock. The solution to all my problems: knocking said problem unconscious.
A very faint knock sounds near the cave entrance, making Shiawase jolt again. "Oh - "

Itami stops and frowns. . . .what was that? He puts his ear to the stone, but doesn't hear anything else. That. . .it almost sounds hollow. Hm. Itami raises his hand and raps on the hard surface.
Shiawase stares at you wildly. "At least he's being polite and knocking?"

Itami pushes on the stone, which creaks. He withdraws. . . .you've. . .got to be kidding. Standing, he drives his shoulder into the hard surface. The rock makes a grinding sound and budges a few inches, but no more than that. Geez - if they're in here, how did they even open it -
Shiawase takes a few steps back as the door cracks a little. "N-no. . ."
