"Shall we go in?" Rin says unsurely. He swallows hard, trying to ignore the frantic beating of his heart.
"I mean, we probably should," Shiawase says, smiling faintly. "Unless you do want to stay out here."
Itami puffs, out of non-existent breath. Geez, he thinks to himself. This guy is way too fast, even if he's just walking. . .I'm having to run just to catch up!
"You're being uncharacteristically silent," Hitari notes, looking over his shoulder. "Thinking about something?"
No, not really, Itami says.
He's still human, Itami thinks again. I wonder if I would be able to knock him unconscious.

"Ha. Likely," Rin laughs nervously and steps inside the cave.
"Ha. Likely," Rin laughs nervously and steps inside the cave.
It looks dry and dark - the only light coming in is from the open entrance. Shiawase sighs deeply and walks in as well, letting the door rotate and click shut. It is now virtually impossible to see. "Oh, oops," Shiawase says. "I forgot we didn't have lights in here. . ." A bright light suddenly pops into the room - you can see a small white orb hovering over her palm. "There we go."
The cave is like a simple, one-room house - in the stone walls, shallow shelves are carved, holding items you don't recognize. Two wooden chairs, quite like the ones in Hitari's house, are shoved up on the opposite wall. A worn-looking box sits on one of them. "It looks just the same," Shiawase murmurs. "I don't know why I expected it to be different."
"There's sticks all over. Would it have killed them to step on one?" Hitari grumbles, searching for tracks.
I mean, yeah, Itami says, laughing to himself a little.
Hitari smiles. "Heh, I suppose you're right. Still, though. This takes longer than it needs to - I'm no tracker."

Rin looks around the small house, wondering who carved it into the rocks and how.

Shiawase walks over to the shelves and runs her hand over them. "This place hasn't been used for a long time," she murmurs. "We lost use for it after people stopped hunting. There was nothing to shelter from."
They probably went to the cliff. Shiawase isn't in the condition to climb trees, Itami mutters to himself.
"Cliff, you say?" Hitari asks. "Where is it?"
Itami mentally slaps himself. Of course I had to say that out loud, he thinks to himself. Great.
It's on the other side of the woods, he says aloud. Too tall to climb, and it doesn't go to hills anywhere - practically inaccessible.
"I'm assuming it has caves, then," Hitari says, speeding up and dragging Itami. "Then we don't need to track them. There's only going to be so many places they can go."

(oh lol, he's dragging Itami now? XD)
Rin walks around the little bunker. "Do you think... they'll find us here?"

(hopefully his other arm doesn't get torn off too xD)
"Hopefully not," Shiawase says. She plops the light orb down on the shelf. "It doesn't seem like he has Hitari's memory. Even then, I don't think Hitari would remember this place himself - at most it's probably very faint."
Can you let go of me? Itami grumbles. I can walk by myself.
"You're slow, and I'm impatient," Hitari says, not even looking at Itami as he continues to run. "Once we get to the cliff, you can help look."

"I still don't understand any of this," Shiawase says. "Not even half a century, and yet. . .so much changed, even in just the past day." She looks at you. "And I mean this in the kindest way possible, but it seems like most of this happened since your arrival."
This cliff only has caves small enough to fit birds. I don't know what you expect, Itami replies.
"Well, then where do you really think they are? Unless you lied, this is really the only place they could be around," Hitari says, staring up the cliff's sheer slope. "Whew. This thing is really tall."
Itami silently lifts a hefty-looking branch of the ground. Yeah, the land's pretty extreme in its variations.
