Hi, everyone! Larkien and Orcastration (thank you two for the welcome gifts!) were yelling a bunch about Sylestia on another pet site, so I decided to drop in and see what all the fuss was about. I'm still piecing things together, but I'm having a lot of fun with exploration and am eager to see what endgame has in store.

(By the way, I see that this community is also super generous to newbies! I want to say, I tend not to collect too many pets and already have my eyes set on a few max stat projects, so please don't worry about sending any welcome pets my way. I appreciate the thought, though!)

Okay, I guess this is the part where I actually introduce myself, huh? Well, here goes.

First things first: I'm plural, which means I share this head (and thus this account) with others. (You've probably heard of DID or "multiple personalities" - my brain-household prefers to use the more general, non-medicalized term for a number of reasons.) We do not expect anyone to keep up with this: we will not be offended by people not knowing who's who or who said what, and you're welcome to just refer to us collectively as Otter(s), they/them. That being said, if you see me flip between "I" and "we," or see "me" talking differently all of a sudden, that's why.

More things... we're Asian-American, pretty brainweird, and the Q in LGBTQ. I think we're a bit older than the general demographic of this site? (We're in our 20s.) We've also had a pretty interesting life, I guess. For starters, we got into a really good college, made it through a few years, and then ran away in the middle of the night, with nothing but our legal documents and a few bags of clothes and books. (Let's just say there's a reason we've cut our parents out of our life.) Through a lot of luck and friend support, we got back on our feet - worked a sucky min wage job for a while, attended one of those coding bootcamps, and somehow?? landed a job at a big tech company?? We're still kind of in disbelief over the whole thing and expecting to get fired any day now, but we're making the most of it while it lasts.

Our job takes up most of our time and energy (which means we can be sporadic about replying to stuff - sorry!) but we also enjoy soloing group bosses in Guild Wars 2, escaping IRL escape rooms, trying weird foods, reading research papers, dissecting The Sims 4, and sometimes writing and drawing and talking OCs with friends.

- Pillowfort (a social media site that's a hybrid of Tumblr and LiveJournal, we're not around much these days though)

Excited to meet you all, and please feel free to ask questions, even if they're "stupid" or "nosy." We don't believe in "stupid questions" and we'll just decline to answer if it's something we're uncomfortable with. Will probably spend most of our time lurking but PMs are also fine.

Hi there, this is going to sound weird, but I actually recognize you from another pet site (Tattered World!)

I don't think we've ever gotten a chance to speak personally since I'm a bit of a massive newbie lurker over there and kinda fell off on playing the game (though I'll probably get back into it when I have more time on my hands and a more functioning brain), but I'd like to crawl out of my coffin in my dungeon of solitude to welcome you here and your trenchcoat of otters here personally. ^^

I'm an older player myself (well 24's not that old but I feel like 40 already tbh), but you're always free to hit me up about anything, I love to talk to people. I mostly hang out in the art and roleplaying sections of Sylestia.
