Team Set-Up

First you want to start with choosing your elements. Usually the best order to go by is a tank, cannon, and healer (it's recommended your team has a healer at all times as mending and potions can only get you so far), but experimenting to find what you like best is ok too. Other options that can work well is an offensive team of a light tank with two cannons, or a defensive team with two tanks and a light pet. Just know that by sacrificing balance of having a better specialized cannon/tank in these teams can make certain areas and battles a lot more tricky, such as the Lost Grove's cave bosses Dia and Kowlla.

Personally recommend if you have the time, leveling/ranking one of each element to have to easily switch out between elements

Shadow (magical damage)- tank (offensive, leeches/avoids hits)
Earth (physical damage)- tank (defensive, mitigates hits)
Water (physical damage)- tank (supportive, absorbs hits)
Air (physical damage)- cannon (single enemy)
Fire (magical damage)- cannon (multiple enemy)
Light (magical damage)- healer and/or tank

So depending on which elements you choose, you'll need to set their proficiency points (you'll unlock a total of 5 of these once your pets reach max level)
Each category boosts specific things, and attuning the right points can help boost your pet's abilities and success. Note that Physical damage pets use strength and Magical damage uses intelligence

Health- boosts pet's max hp
Strength/Intelligence- boosts pet's damage
Dexterity- boosts pet's accuracy and critical hit chance
Agility- boosts pet's attack avoidance and accuracy

Here are some of the typical proficiency arrangements for each element, but the str/int and agility can usually be tweaked on tanks depending on which abilities you want to boost more.

Shadow (magical damage)- 1 health 2 intelligence 2 agility (balanced), 3 intelligence 2 agility (leeching boost), or 2 intelligence 3 agility (avoidance boost)
Earth (physical damage)- 2 health 3 agility
Water (physical damage)- 1 health 2 strength 2 agility (balanced), 2 strength 3 agility (avoidance boost)
Air (physical damage)- 3 strength 2 dexterity
Fire (magical damage)- 3 intelligence 2 dexterity
Light healer (magical damage)- 3 intelligence 2 dexterity
Light tank (magical damage)- 3 intelligence 2 agility

Gears

After you attune your pets to elements and set proficiency points up, you'll need to get them the appropriate gear. It's better to have higher level and rarity gear as the better the rarity/level is the more boost to the stats you'll have Here are efficient gears for each element, Lost Grove gears marked with an asterisk *

Shadow (magical damage)- illusionist / reaver*
Earth (physical damage)- assassin / warden*
Water (physical damage)- assassin or myrmidon / stormcaller or tidal*
Air (physical damage)- myrmidon / stormcaller*
Fire (magical damage)- evoker / pyromancer*
Light healer (magical damage)- evoker / pyromancer*
Light tank (magical damage)- illusionist / lightbringer* (accuracy boost) or reaver (avoidance boost)

Finding the highest level/rarity gears will provide your team with better boosts to their stats. Some good options for getting these higher level/rarity gears would be to complete daily dungeon runs (Nightfall Dungeon and Dungeon of the Forsaken) in order to have a chance at the epic/legendary/mythic gear drops, buying Sarielle epic gear from the Sanctuary of Sarielle (requires allied level reputation, gained from completing missions, quests, and raids in the Umbra Forest), Completing high level/rank missions in the town barracks and opening the reward satchels which can sometimes drop gears, and grinding in the Lost Grove/Festival areas and fighting elites/bosses in these areas.
Gears can also be found on the Broker for decently cheap depending on the level/rarity

Level 25
Nightfall Dungeon > epic/legendary/mythic pieces drop on occasion
Legendary rarity mission satchels from Esior's Haven, found in the Barracks > legendary pieces drop on occasion

Level 26
Sarielle Gear > epic gears available for gold in the Town Hall with the appropriate reputation

Level 50
Dungeon of the Forsaken > epic/legendary/mythic pieces drop on occasion
Legendary rarity mission satchels from Sanctuary of Sarielle, found in the Barracks > legendary pieces drop on occasion

Level 60
Grinding in the Lost Grove by defeating enemies, opening chests > rare exotic gears drop on occasion
Defeating elite spawns in the Lost Grove > guaranteed rare exotic gear drop per elite
Defeating bosses in the Lost Grove, summoned from defeating corresponding elites > guaranteed epic vinethorn gear drop per boss

Player Based Level (gear dropped will be whatever level the highest level pet is in your party)
Defeating Festival bosses during Festivals/Events (seasonal) > guaranteed epic/legendary gear(s) drop per boss

Behemoth Preparation Tips

At Stage 5 of the Lost Grove, you'll be tasked with defeating the Grove Behemoth. While this boss's battle itself is not terribly difficult, the results of beating it can make your game more challenging so it's important to complete certain things before jumping in. These are STRONG recommendations, but ultimately it is your choice to follow them so if you feel you are ready, it's up to you when you decide to fight the Behemoth

Leveling pets to max level
One of the most crucial tips I can give is to make sure your pets are leveled to the max level of 70 (as of now, level cap increase is planned for release soon) as once you defeat the Behemoth, the enemies in the Lost Grove will raise from the default level of 65 to 70 and bosses from level 68 to 73, making them ultimately more difficult to defeat.

Building your Barracks
Another notable difference after beating Behemoth is that the overall material drop pool increases, meaning that certain items have a lower chance of dropping due to a larger pool. This can create issues with getting the materials you need for constructing the other buildings in the barracks as well as the level increase can make fighting bosses more challenging, limiting your ability to get higher quality materials to drop.

While having all the buildings is ideal, not all of them are as helpful/useful for the battling gameplay. Out of the 5 buildings available (not counting the Portal), the Trading Post, Training Grounds, and Blacksmith are the most useful for down the road.

The Trading Post will provide another source for buying elixirs, draughts, traps, and ent flasks (building rank 3) while also allowing the option to trade a certain amount of materials for these items

The Training Grounds will provide you the ability to use a certain amount of materials in order to start a debuff against specific enemies as well as includes a general buff for your team, making battling easier and faster. This can be extremely useful to use against elites/bosses to gain an upper hand, along with Ent Flasks which are on-the-go stat boosting potions.

The Blacksmith allows you the ability to upgrade your gear, scrap unneeded gear, and to craft Stoneweave gear (unlocked through Ancient Tomes occasionally dropped by Lost Grove cave bosses) and Lost Grove exclusive avatar items. While the crafting aspect is not as crucial at this point in the Lost Grove Stages, upgrading gear is very useful to give your team an edge against enemies, boosted gears provided further stat boosts for your team.
The other important reason for building the Blacksmith is that for Stage 10 of the Lost Grove requires you to reforge material gear to give to an NPC in the caves, and the only way of doing this is to use the Blacksmith to reforge the materials. In short, the Blacksmith is a required piece to completing Stage 10.

Ranking your team's abilities
Similar to upgrading gear, ranking your pets' abilities will help you have an upper hand against enemies. Ranked attacks (4 levels of rank as of now, rank 5 will be unlocked with the level cap increase soon) can be viewed in a pet's Proficiency Page, boosting attack damage, mana gain/required for use, length of turns of attack DoTs, and increasing the level/length of buffs.

Expertise, similar to experience, is the unit used to measure ranks and can be gained in two ways; Defeating enemies and using specific attacks. Every time you use a specific attack, its expertise % slowly (keep in mind, this process is supposed to be slow so you will need to grind for a bit to see a significant change) increases and once at 100%, will level to the next rank, along with defeating enemies also contributes to this % gain. There are ways of increasing expertise gain, such as battling during Site-wide Double Experience/Expertise events (usually around festival/events, mentioned in the MotD), using Philters of Expedient Learning which increases the % of expertise gained per battle/use for a certain amount of turns, and having the Grand Protector's Insignia Artifact (unlocked from completing the first bonus reward of the Patriotic Event, added 2021 and possibly returning for future events).
