Prologue

"Do we think this is the correct decision?" a tom asked.
"Who knows." another cat said. "Foxcliff, we must know how she thinks."
"I know, Rainspirit." Foxcliff said. "But what does Brightwhisker, Specklestar, Blazedusk and everyone else think?"
"We need to ask more." Specklestar said. "As a wise leader, we must not spread the word."
"How do we do that?" a kit asked.
"Listen, Thunderkit." a cat said. "Ask Dapplespirit, or go play with Dawnpaw."
"Don't be so harsh, Moonstream!" Blazedusk said. "He was, and is, just a kit."
"I know that! Quietstream knows too!" Moonstream pointed out.
"Good." Blazedusk said.
