She'd been playing the game for a long time, an indie RPG called Sylestia. The pets were cute, the characters were funny, the community was nice. OpheliaBones was her username, Circe her starter pet- a purple and black Aurleon. Very pretty, very ordinary.
OpheliaBones was quite the Aurleon enthusiast, one might say, and she prided herself greatly upon her large collection of the Sylesties. She bred them quite often near the beginning, but like a good percentage of players, after the joy of mass-producing a good number of "dishwater pets" as they were known wore off, she began to breed her pets less and less. Eventually, it became so that she rarely bred at all, save the occasional pair of rare themed pets.
So she was surprised and confused one day when she entered her hatchery to find a single, pure black egg.

OpheliaBones frowned. That, for one, was not a tag that existed, and for two, where did the egg come from?
She pulled up the Forums page to Report a Bug. The only logical course of action; perhaps it was a troll or a prank, at worst a hacker testing their limits on an unsuspecting online pet game.
OpheliaBones glanced at the clock. It was late, later than she expected. She must have underestimated the time, it was almost 1 in the morning!
