I'm not sure how it would work exactly since the companion items aren't used but I think it would be great if there's somehow a function similar to the wardrobe for keeping track of which companions you have. It would also be extremely useful if it mentioned how different companions are also obtained.

Yes! I think this would be helpful, but maybe not just companions, but maybe just costumes all together? it could be like an add on to the wardrobe or inventory? I don't really know., But I support this idea!
