So I've referred two of my friends(#145753 and #145624), but on my settings page it still says that my referrals are at 0. I'm sure that they both joined from my referral link, so why isn't it showing up?

They have to pass certain "checkpoints" in the game for it to count. Otherwise you caould have a lot of people joining but not playing and that's not really that good a deal.
