I saw there is a thought to creating a pound. this is a lovely thought, but sadly allowing people to gain free pets hurts the economy and would generally lower the price of most wanted pets. what if such a pound had a minimal adoption fee of say 100-1000 gold. this would potentially raise the worth of unwanted pets as it should create a kind of "floor" or bottom price pets are worth. if the owner was given an incentive of 100 gold when they placed their pet for adoption, and the new owner pays 100 for the unwanted pet, this would also create an incentive for cycling out more pets and having fewer in the database just drifting around. if you would like to test such an incentive for lowering the population, you could try adding the 100 gold reward for releasing a pet and see what kind of impact that alone has on the game.

While I am not sure what I feel about a pound, I doubt that there would be very many pets actually worth a lot tossed into it.

My problems with pounds tend to be they will often fill up with pets that no one actually wants to buy, but the previous owners (the ones who released them to the pound) 'want them to go to forever homes' and doesn't want to release them.

With releasing being an option, I can't really see many people who release regularly not actually using that.

Otherwise, most pets in it would be the most common themes from festivals that already are given way for free, or just can't even be given away or pets that are randomly breed 'dishwater' pets that few people want to buy even at 100g.

The most wanted pets would likely never enter the pound, because there is a market for them and people could easily sell those pets. The more expensive, such as max stats, wouldnt' be released to a pound (except very very very rarely) so their market wouldnt' be hurt either.

Also, I doubt that it would raise the worth of the pets at all. If someone doesn't feel that it is worth buying a pet for 1g off the broker, then they wouldn't feel it is worth it to buy the same pet for 100g from the pound.

Then there is the issue of people buying pets from the pound simply to release them when the patriotic even rolls around.

The issue with adding pure gold rewards to anything is that pure gold (or currency) incentives create a faucet that can easily lead to inflation.

Lets take some of the people I heard talking in region chat. Someone said they went from like 400 of a specific theme purebred to like 4. They released them all. That would be 40,000 gold from that alone. There are others who have breeding projects that they release that many, if not more, nearly daily, due to the pets not being what they want.

And, it probably wouldn't really help that much, because players would still list pets for 100g (which would simply become the 'floor' price for pets and not actually do anything for the economy) instead of releasing, often because they don't want the pets released, but rather want them to go to a good home. (I have done this myself with some pets, basically gave them away for 1g to people who wanted them rather than releasing those pets)

I hope this is coherent, I seem to be jumping around a bit, at least to me. Let me know if I missed anything or you want/need clarification on my thoughts... sometimes I need that clarification :P

I posted a similar idea to this a while back, though mine was really only designed for tagged themes

A lot of pet games have an adoption center-like feature (humane society on Furrypaws, Waja Park on Wajas, etc) I'm honestly kind of surprised Sylestia doesn't have one tbh

i actually found this site through an ad from another game I used to play called chicken smoothie. they have a pound and its mostly random stuff, not rare at all however if your lucky you can occasionally find a good pet. whenever an account was deleted/banned all of their pets would go to the pound (most of the time, they didn't do this with some accounts.possibly a glitch or they forgot about them?) it opened occasionally and the pets were free, but I agree with the idea of paying a small fee. this way you can give some pets to others instead of releasing them! alos, on chicken smoothie players were able to donate pets to the pound. i think its a good idea.
