I was told to make a suggestion post about this so here I am lol
Anyways, in this month's edition of the Sylestia Times, there is some discussion about the rapidly decreasing value of fabled pets (See the "Economic Standing" and "A Plea to Breeders" articles by Selestial if you haven't already).
My suggestion is that the diamond shop prices for the essences of fabled pets be increased. Right now, they are the same price as the essences for non-fabled pets, which doesn't seem to make sense if they are supposed to be rarer. Raising the prices on the essences might increase the value of the pets themselves.
The pet market is currently in pretty bad shape, and this alone won't completely fix it, but it may help.
I would love to hear other people's thoughts on this.

I think essences are rare already.
Looked up on the trade broker, and a person is selling 100 diamonds for 349,999 gold.
Lets round it up to 350 000 gold.
Going by that conversion, the price for a regular essence is 875 000 gold. For a pet.
I think that is pricey enough already.
What is contributing to the drop in prices is due to over breeding, not generating many pets.
Maybe it will help, but I think the help will be minimal.

The issue is not the price of diamonds. Their value would stay the same.
But the value of essences and pets need to increase.
Here's what I mean:
I just took a look ryori essences currently for sale on the trade broker, and I can get a regular essence for around 300k.
So if you're valuing diamonds for aprox. 3500g a diamond, that's aprox. 86 diamonds for a regular ryori essence, which sells for 250 diamonds in the diamond shop. There is clearly an issue here.
Fabled pets are supposed be pricey. But right now, I can get a lighira at the same price as a sylvopa, and I can buy a beautiful ny'vene from another user for cheaper than I can from the ny'vene shop.
Overbreeding is DEFINITELY a very large issue, I completely agree, but there isn't really any good way to prevent that. But one thing we CAN do is make essences harder to obtain, potentially making breeders less willing to sell their pets for so cheap.
Like I said, this alone won't fix the pet market. There isn't just one solution to all of this. But doing nothing certainly won't help, either.

What Electrifying said.
Definitely a cause of overbreeding. A mix of getting one's hands on an offspring and the plentiful public studs for public breeding can lead to lots of eggs.
ie catch a bunch of dirt-cheap ryori from festival, breed with public studs, sell the babies/release them because breeding was poorly done
edit: I can see the reasoning in making fabled essences pricier. However, I like it, because it's kinda like an equal-access thing if you have the money.
The "plea" in the article wasn't to people who generate projects (who tend to have VERY limited offspring), it's a plea to breeders who breed in mass. Breeders who have entire lineups of females/males that they breed every 7 days to create dozens of eggs per week to try and get the most carries/vis for the next generation. If they want to sell the pets, fine, but there's the reason their market's so bad.

Personally, I think non-diamond users, if they're savvy enough at the game, should be able to handle the market quite well.
I hardly use my diamonds on essences. Instead, I buy breeders' offspring. I start small, with maybe some pets that have multiple carries that rival what an essence can give, and start breeding with various publicly-available pets (with gold).
I now have several multivis/multicarry fabled pets. How I got them is probably because of the depreciating value of fabled pets (due to OVERBREEDING, not so much their general price provided throughout the game).
But a non diamond player can go far if they gather enough gold or know how to gather gold, or stick with their small bases and build on it.

I didn't mean to start any arguments with my article. :x Flute's right, though, it was aimed at those who mass breed, myself being included in that category, since I'm currently mass breeding my Nephini's every seven days. It was jsut trying to get people to think about the market a little more before putting up these supposedly rare pets for little to no gold, far less than they're worth, and to think again about flooding the market with every hatchling that doesn't come out exactly like they wanted it to.
I'm honestly not sure what good raising the prices on the essences for fable pets would do. Breeding project babies from generated parents already go for much more than ones from captured or bred pets and the amount of offspring sold is usually limited. I have a few pairs of generated pets, a pair of Nephs and a pair of 'Venes, and unless someone PMs me about an offspring I usually release them, or use the babies as prizes on contests. I see most people do that with their breeding project babies. So unfortunately I'm not sure it would do much to increase the market on pets, which I obviously agree needs to be brought up somehow.

Aw don't worry Selestial, no arguments here! Just a discussion. At least, it wasn't my intent to argue! I'm sorry if anything I've said came off as hostile!
In any case, thank you guys for your input! I see where you all are coming from. In all honesty I wasn't expecting many people to like this idea, but someone suggested I make a thread about it so I did. We'll work out a solution to this economy problem some how. Looks like we'll have to just brainstorm a little more...:P
If anyone has any other comments or ideas please share!

In all honesty... I really like this idea. Maybe not so much to help the pet economy right away, but because they are fabled pets. I mentioned before that fabled pets needed to be harder to get, but nobody liked the idea of it because they are so set in the way that things are now... If anyone expects things to be better, then things need to change. Fabled pets need to be pricier, they need to be harder to obtain than regular non-fabled pets that you can catch in the wild... Its true that people are selling their pets cheap because there is a mass of those pets being bred, but if you nip the problem at the source, it could really help over time. Someone had to generate the first gen parents, right? (Albeit, Nephinies, Ny'Venes and Puffadores can be obtained through other means, but usually they are really rare/expensive with zero-one traits on them.)
