I just started this game and wanted to say hi!
What would you suggest I do and, if needed, how do I go about doing it?

I'm not quite sure if there's anything you should really do right now, but I suggest you check out the festival!

I don't have a lot of questions right now, just chilling and seeing what happens.

My favorite species right now is Sylvorpa, I actually love them.

Under the 'Explore' tab near the top, there should be a but that says 'Seasonal Festival'!
I bred a themed Sylvorpa for you ^^
Just make sure you don't go catching every Sylesti that you see, because a lot of them aren't worth what you think they are, and they take up stable space quickly :P

I've been trying to catch all the cuties I see, and those traps are expensive.
Oh, sudden question!
How do you get gold?
Is it just from quests and random chests you find?

A themed Sylesti is one that has a certain color scheme, picked by the admins. If you click on that pet and scroll all the way down, you'll see a blue star and the words, "Flowing Sunshine Sylvorpa". That is what the theme is. Themed pets are usually worth a lot as you can usually only find them during festivals such as this.
To buy it, just click the link, click the green button that says "View Prices", and hit Buy :P
The best way of making gold is through missions, which you can find in the Barracks of a town. You'll want to buy a few cheap high-level pets off the Advanced Search, attune all of their proficiency points to one, and send it on that corresponding mission. It tends to make a good amount of gold every day.
Don't use the healers in the town, either. It's much cheaper to buy some potions and use those instead.

Missions? I've heard that mentioned in those long blocks of type (though I just skim the plot... ahhh......)
Advanced search? I'll go check that out.

Another question: what are scales? What do you do with them?
And back when I made my starter, they mentioned essences? What are those, I'm curious, they sound... magical... XD

Scales, which you get from nurturing, can be used in the Scale Shop (under Shops, in the top bar). They buy stuff like dyes and such.
You know how you made your custom starter in the Generator, right? Well, the Generator can be found under the Explore tab, and Essences let you create a custom pet with a certain amount of genes/mutations. However, some essences have a color swing, so be careful when you create a white pet with a Regular Essence, as it might end up gray. I've learned my lesson with that :P
