I don't know if this is a well-known bug as I haven't seen any recent threads about it and I checked the Known Issues section and it wasn't listed there either, so I'll go ahead and post this here.
I like using Comet Chat, but my gripe about it is when I'm in battle or exploring the overworld, the controls don't lock into the chat so when I'm typing out a message to someone, I end up making moves or attacking by mistake.

I have noticed this as well. I don't have any trouble with gen chat, but tinychat can definitely cause some problems. Mostly it's WASD, but you can also run into stuff and interact with it without meaning to, if you're not paying enough attention.
The chat seems like it's somewhat separate from Sylestia itself, though, and I'm not sure how much control Krin has over it.

Yeah it's probably true Krinadon doesn't have much control over it :(

When you go to type into Region Chat, a script runs that disables hotkey recognition. I unfortunately do not have the same ability to add that into Comet Chat.
