(I'm being too dramatic. Welp.)
You're not safe. Wherever you go.
At first, it was just a few cases here and there. Perfectly normal people who were fine one day, and crazy the next. People with eyes that were normal one day, and pure darkness the next. People who were free one day, and servants to an unknown force the next. And it was spreading, passed to whoever was unlucky enough to be overpowered by the ones who had already been taken by the shadows.
You had dismissed it as nothing important to you, a minor problem, surely it would be solved? In any case, you were safe, it would never reach you.
But it spread like wildfire, an epidemic like nothing anyone had ever seen before. So you weren't prepared when it reached your town. First a stranger, then an acquaintance, then a friend.
And then the person closest to you was taken and you could do nothing to stop it. You could only leave them and escape. Hoping for somewhere you could be safe from the shadows.
But you aren't safe. And if this continues, no one will be.
Will you spend the rest of your life running? Will you hide and search for refuge? Will you seek other survivors and find and try to live with it? Or will you find a way to stop this?
(Yea, this is basically just me practicing my terrible writing skills.)

1. Don't be rude. Whether it's to me or to the other players.
2. No Mary or Gary Sues. Don't be overpowered, either.
3. Yes, you may possibly get pets and avatar items in this game. If you don't want them, let me know. Even if you don't actually want an item, you can still put it on your game avatar.
4. That being said, donations of pets or avi items are always welcome.
5. You can (and most likely will) interact with other players in this game.
6. If you change your username, you must tell me.
7. Being inactive for more than two weeks without telling me first will get you kicked.
8. Yes, you have slightly more control over things that happen than in an RPG, but don't get all god moddy and try to control me or other players.
9. If your chosen weapon requires ammunition (such as a bow), that weapon, and ONLY THAT WEAPON gets unlimited normal-quality ammunition. You might get limited amounts of better quality ammunition later.
10. Please ping me, or I won't respond to you. Quote/bolding are also nice but optional.
11. You can die. Yes, you can, but if you are in a threatening situation, there will always be a way out. Whether you choose the right decision or not is a different story.
12. Use your common sense. Both in the game and otherwise.

Key Object Starter Weapon Food Tool Weapon Ammunition Text
Knife (Orca2whale) - Semi-old knife that still kinda works.
Double Knifes (Lalalanmao, Mossflight2) - Two knives, twice the fun! Or danger, depending on how good you are at using them.
Short Sword (Scoutwolf) - It's like a sword. But it's short. For short people? Maybe.
Garrote (Jumpingemerald) - You can murder people with it. Enough said.
Dull Dagger (Serenitylichen) - Dull weapons cause more pain. So be careful with it.
Mirror - A mirror. It's reflective. Obviously.
Apple - A shiny red apple. Restores 1 hunger when eaten.
Thingamajig - A tube with glass at both ends, makes things appear bigger. Awaiting further inspection.
Pen - It's a fairly normal pen with black ink.
Bread Loaf - A loaf of bread divided into 4 slices. Each slice restores 1 hunger when eaten.
Watch - A pocket watch. Used to tell the time.
Linen Scraps - A few murdered clothes. At least you can still use them as bandages.
Compound Bow - It's just a fancy bow with a lot of gears. Not multiple bows in one, unfortunately.
Arrow - Basically useless unless you have a bow. I guess you could stab things with them, though.
Hairpin - Useful for pinning back unruly hair - or picking locks.
'The Sylesti Guidebook' - A thick book, it has more uses that just hitting people with it. Awaiting further inspection.
Cheese - A medium sized hunk of cheese. Restores 2 hunger when eaten. Expires 3 days after being taken out of a refrigerator.
Crackers - Just a few saltine crackers. Restores 1 hunger when eaten.
