So, Im a bit new here and Ive got some questions regarding genes:

What do the different colours mean?
What do the letters in front of the genes mean? Ex. (EE)
How can you tell exactly which ones are visible and which ones are carried other than looking at your pets image?
What do genetic tests and philters do?

Comprehensive breeding guide here.

But for short answers...

1. Blue = visible; green = carried; purple = visible with a different trait hidden underneath.

2. The letters represent the traits. N means nothing; A-M and O-Z are potential traits. You can find full lists for each species and slot in the generator.

3. Well... looking at them... or looking to see if there's a blue or purple trait in the pet's genetics. Even if you can't distinguish colors, if you don't see any Ns, there's a trait in there.

4. Genetic tests reveals carried and hidden traits. They're always there and can be passed on to offspring regardless, but if you want to know what they have, testing is necessary. Philters can be used at hatching to increase a pet's base stats.
