There is a type of parrot called the Kea that lives in the mountains of New Zealand. They have the ability to instantly learn from their brothers and sisters and cooperate to survive. Also they are super smart and can destroy windows in homes and in cars, so much so that people sell Kea proofing materials.

Another fact: giraffes have no voice boxes.

Bdelloideans are a type of rotifers (tiny invertebrate) that live in ephemeral (temporary) pools. They are eutelic, meaning they have only a set number of cells and do not undergo meiosis (cell division). They also undergo parthenogenesis, which is an asexual reproductive method which is basically just self-cloning, meaning all Bdelloidea are "females". When their pools dry up, they dessicate (lose the water in their bodies), but remain alive. They can remain this way for quite some time, before the seasons turn and their pools fill up with water again. They absorb this water in order to function again. However, sometimes they can absorb too much water and explode, or expire while they were dessicated. Dessication damages the DNA, so before they can reproduce, they need to repair it. They can take DNA in the environment surrounding them and incorporate it into their own to patch up the holes. A lot of this can be from the burst Bdelloidea, but they have found animal, plant, fungal, and bacterial DNA mixed in. Parthenogenesis has the problem of every copy having the exact DNA, except the more times it is replicated, the more it becomes damaged. Also, if all members of a population share the same traits, they are also all susceptible to the same diseases and also cannot further evolve. Bdelloideans solve this neatly by incorporating foreign DNA into their genome- and that is cool as heck.

I watch a lot of documentaries, some give me more information than I want to know. Now I'm going to share a few of the more disturbing facts I've learned.

1. Capybaras (giant rodents that look like guinea pigs) eat their own poop.
2. Vanilla flavouring contains a chemical compound that comes from a beaver's butt.
3. Turkey Vultures use their own urine to clean themselves and vomit up their food when they're too full to fly.
4. The Horned Toad squirts blood out of its eyes when in danger.
5. The Hoopoe (a type of bird) will squirt poop at its enemy when threatened.
6. Roadrunners eat their own young if they don't gain weight fast enough.
7. Male Proboscis Monkeys show they're fully extended.... uh... manly parts to intimidate other males.
8. Dwarf Sperm Whales use a cloud of poop to escape from enemies. (Like how ninjas use smoke bombs)
9. Male Anglerfish merge with the female they mate with until all that's left of them is their... manly parts.

1. A female ferret has to either have babies before her monthly cycle or be spaded else she will die of blood loss.
2. the sea cucumber poops as it moves along the ground, so technically it poops during its entire lifespan.
3. The zebra's kick is powerful enough to break a lions jaw.
4. Giraffes can run up to 30mph
5. Lions are called Simba in Swahili, same goes with names as Pumbaa for the boars.
6. Birds will always produce eggs, regardless if the egg contains an unborn baby.
7. Lions, due to their voice boxes can't purr, just as house cats can't roar.
8. Cheetahs don't roar, but instead chirp.
9. Cats can swim, just prefer not to get wet, especially domestic cats who have that choice.
10. The Turkish Van loves to swim, regardless of domestication, and is called the swimming cat.
11. Female cats are normally more social towards one another and will care for one-another young, males are usually classically anti-social.
12. cats and dogs are equally intelligent, just dogs being pack animals prefer praise and rewards and are a lot more easy to tell what they enjoy. Cats actually require pocking and prodding to figure out what makes them enjoy the reward, which is why dog people think cats are more difficult to train if not, not intelligent enough. Cats usually will do anything that helps with social status. Thus, is why when we don't give them attention they want it, and when we want to give them attention they refuse. In a sense cats like being in control. Cats do learn tricks though: Meowing or scratching a door to get out. -my cat: Skunk will scratch on my bedroom door if I'm not fast enough to let him out during meal time.
13. Animals that are known for being scruffed: Cats, and ferrets, are known for going limp if scruffed properly. Scruffing was originally a source of punishment used by the parent of these animals. ferrets parents would even go on to drag their "child" -I use child bc it is a term used to differentiate parent from child regardless of age.- across the ground or left and right.
14. Just as human, all animals are smart in their own way: dogs: Obedience such as being told to sit and sitting and other such tricks, cats: We all hate it when cats open our cupboards, or when my cat: Kisa knows my bedroom door doesn't latch to well and will try to open the door with her paw.
15. Rabbits as babies are called Kits, or Kittens, yet adults males are bucks and females are does.
16. Gentoo Penguins males propose to their lifetime mates with pebbles.
17. Cows have favorites, or best friends and remember who they are.
18. A group of flamingos is called a flamboyance.
19. Butterflies taste with their feet, not their antennaes.
20. A female dog is a b1tch before puppies, a mother is called a dam -hopefully bc I'm using the words in scientific terminology I won't get in trouble-
21. Sea otters hold each others paws when they sleep so that they don't drift.
22. When rabbits twist and jump out of excitement it's called a binky.
23. Humpback whales will actually sing each others music, and might even evolve it. Think of it as a Bard going around singing stories but as he goes around and others hear it, it might get changed up. yes even other groups of the whales will ding a song from a different group.
24. Sea horses are monogamous life mates and travel holding each others tails.
25. Male pups will intentionally let females win, so that they can get to know them later.
26. Monkeys don't like unequal rewards: one monkey gets a pebble the other gets a banana for the same exact work, guess who is unhappy. XD
27. Worms communicate by snuggling.
28. Elephants are empathetic, even towards other species: http://www.cbsnews.com/news/tarra-and-bella-elephant-loses-mans-best-friend/
29. Elephants never forget.
30. A cats nose is like a humans finger, it has a unique pattern.
31. Fish use tools, such as rocks to open clams.
32. Dolphins hav distinct calls(names) for one-an-other.
33. Cows produce more milk when they listen to music they enjoy.
34. a group of porcupines is called a prickle.
35. common swifts spend their entire lifetime in the air, they will catch bugs as they fly, the only time they aren't is when they are nesting.
36. Baby chimps play make-believe the same way young children do, they will even play dolls, using items like sticks and "pretend to feed" the stick.
