The girl set the lantern near you and the kit. His paw wasn't the worse, but they weren't in the best shape. It could go for a split, but it isn't required

I give the kit the ham, and wipe off his paw with a bandage scrap. I take the fresh ones and do a wrap, then secure it with some small, soft branches, so the kit can move it's foot a bit still. I wrap another layer, making it tough, and secure it with some bandage tape. I set the nixi on the floor, and watch it for a bit, hoping that he can walk, and keep him from tearing the splint.

The kit slumped down and sniffed his paw softly, then whining only to look at the girl. The girl whined back softly and looked up at you, bowing her head slightly. She gently pet his head as he closed his eyes and yawned before laying his head down.

Thank you Miss...I-I don't know how to thank you...

"Oh goodness, no need to thank me! No living creature should see pain unless evil, darling. And unless this nixi had been trying to bite you the whole time, I wouldn't consider anything else!" I smile at her and turn to the cave entrance, glowering at the rain. Why can't it stop yetttt. I turn to the girl, "and what's your name dearie? Is it alright if I stay here?"

The girl swept some of her white hair out of her face, her blue eyes watching you.
Callisto is what Mama used to call me...but yes, you are well to my little home anytime..
She smiled and gently stroked the Nixi's side.

I frown at her words, 'used to', but nod and turn to watch the rain.

Later, the rain lightened up and moved on. Callisto had fallen asleep with the Nixi in her arms, who had snuggled his snout into her arms.

If people may still join I'd follow the trail of blue blood

I go behind, into the run down cottage, to search for clues there first as it seems to be the best place to start.
