Maybe they know each other before, but they aren't actually friends until the academy? Like you know how you sometimes see people in your classes or hallways but you don't really know them?

Nicole hurried along the corridor, heading for her class. She carried a heavy stack of books in her arms, for she hadn't gotten a chance to put them away after her last period. She cursed quietly as her wand fell from where it had been tucked into her pocket. She stooped, accidently spilling a book. Muttering angrily, Nicole placed the books down next to her and grabbed her wand, undoing the buckles on her bag and putting it inside. Then she grabbed the books and took off again, knowing she would probably be late forclass. And on my first day too, and I don't even know anyone, she thought angrily.
Of course, it was a witch school ((a Witch school, Nicole thought sarcastically, so why were there boys?)) and so it was practically impossible she would see anyone she knew. Lost in thought, Nicole suddenly ran into something tall, firm, and that made her books jab into her stoumach with the force of collision. "I'm so sorry," Nicole cried as the books spilled onto the ground. "Oh, Varda save me..." she groaned, hands shaking with both impatience and annoyance, at herself, of course. Finally she managed to get her books back together and rose, brushing her hair out of her eyes as she looked at the girl she had ran in to.
Nicole nearly dropped her books again in shock. "What are you doing here?!"
