instead of just having a release pet option there should be other buttons that allow players to send their unwanted pets to the adoption centre so other players can adopt those unwanted pets.

also i think that changing the 'release' button to a "discard" button and making discarded pets need gems to reclaim them would be much better then having a release button that basically discards those pets it just doesnt make any sense..

another really good option would be to change the release button so that other people can find the pets that are released in the wild and it literally just makes the pets available to claim in the wild

This has been addressed before, and many people will oppose it.

-People release failed project pets, 'cos they don't want the pets but need space. But they also wouldn't want someone else getting a hold of their project.
-Say an inactive user has released some pets. S/he comes back two years later and wants to reclaim a pet... only to find out that someone else has taken it.
-There are probably other reasons people have given that I just can't remember right now.

I would love to get my hands on some old, rare themes that have been released by now-inactive users... but there are so many potential drawbacks to the system that it wouldn't make much sense to implement it.

^ Reiterating my thoughts on finding released pets in the wild.

Wouldn't oppose an "adoption center" though.

in response to these issues

--People release failed project pets, 'cos they don't want the pets but need space. But they also wouldn't want someone else getting a hold of their project.
--Say an inactive user has released some pets. S/he comes back two years later and wants to reclaim a pet... only to find out that someone else has taken it.

~they could always hit the discard button that i suggested is basically what the release button does atm it discards those pets not releases them and thats what is very misleading about the release button

I guess I don't understand what the difference is between releasing and your "discard" idea.

There isnt much of a difference at all but renaming the release button to discard would be a much better idea because having the button named as release makes people think that the pets will be released into the wild

And that is very misleading

I do remember that somebody said before that sometimes project breeders they release pets for space for a new project, then after awhile bring them back to use for another project that could use the released pets. So only a discard and adoption/find-in-wild button would be a little...annoying, maybe? for those people

I personally don't like the word "discard" when referring to pets, and I know a lot of people that are much more attached to their pixels than i am. The idea of "discarding" what represents a /pet/ to me is very unsettling. Releasing is a much better word for it, as it makes it feel less like putting the pet into a can full of garbage (or worse) and more like the pet is released to continue living its life happily elsewhere. "Discarding" sounds too cruel for soemthign that is supposed to represent a pet or companion, even if it is just pixels. And the way the internet seems to run today, a lot of people would take "discarding" much more personally than I would.

I see nothing wrong with the use of the word release. However, i will mention that ont he release popup, it says "Once released, it will be released into the wild and will be removed from your Stables/Hatchery" and yeah, that can be misleading. perhaps a change to that wording rather than renaming the feature itself would help to alleviate confusion? Maybe just saying "this pet will be removed from your hatchery/stable and can only b returned by reclaiming it." or something along those lines?

Absolutely agree that 'discard' is not a word I would ever like seen used for this feature. Discarding your pets.... it leaves a terrible taste in my mouth, even when we're just talking about pixels. Personally, I think of 'releasing' being more like the difference between an indoor and outdoor cat. The outdoor cat is free to roam, but always comes back to your yard/porch/home. You still think of them as your cat, you still love them and pet them and enjoy their company, but they're also out there doing their own thing for most of the day. That's what I imagine 'releasing' being like. If the word itself is confusing, I guess it could be changed to 'let outside' or something.

Discarding.... that sounds more like when people drive their pets way out to the middle of nowhere and abandon them. Honestly, if you were going to use the term at all, it should be for the option to find other people's pets in the wild. They were dumped in the wild and their previous owners never want to see them again. They have truly been discarded. A nicer option, though, would be naming it 'to the wild', or something similar.

Or, you know, just make that adoption center a thing and have the two options: release (as it currently works), and 'put up for adoption' (goes to the adoption center). The problem with the adoption center, though, is that I can see it quickly being flooded with undesirable pets, and then there would need to be a time limit for pets sitting in the adoption center before being released anyway (because of the way lineages work, they can't just be deleted).

However, I would like to say.... I can't see myself using the 'send to wild' or 'put up for adoption' options at all, even if they were implemented. I do a lot of project breeding, so anything I release from that would still just be released. I rarely breed random pets, and any tamed pets I don't want I sell (and those are usually either themed, or things other people wouldn't really want anyway). What I'm thinking is, those lovely released pets you see and want, and hope that these features would give you access to.... it's likely they would still get released because their previous owners wanted to release them. Otherwise, they would have been sold. Anyway, that's my two cent opinion on that.
