Currently I have only one. I thought increasing mission limit will do (silly me) and I think I just wasted 50K gold

Mission limit is how many pets you can send on a mission at one time. To get harder missions you need to levle up and progress through the story

Every hour the missions change. To do lots of very hard missions (and get more gold), wait until the next hour and see if the mission has changed to a new one you can do.
Don't worry, the gold isn't wasted! I have 6 mission slots myself, and send my pets on hard and very hard missions by waiting until the next hour.
