"Aren't you a little young to be smoking?" His voice was deep yet held a bit of an English accent still even after so many years. He looked down at the younger woman, eyeing her curiously. "Got another?" He didn't normally smoke, in fact he hated the taste though at this point in his life he didn't care what happened to him. The woman didn't seem all that ready for a party, with her large sweatshirt and what looked to be mesh leggings. If asked where she would fit in he would never have even thought of this type of party, perhaps a skating ring? If not then some teen party. But he wasn't here to judge people, after all he looked like some pervert homeless guy that stole a suit and snuck in. Truth was he hadn't cared about his appearance in a long time, nor had he found the energy to shave off the stubble that covered his chin and cheeks. His hair was a mess and he just looked tired all the time. Thank you depression.

"I'm 17, and here" I say, reaching into the pocket on front of the sweater and pulling a cigarette out along with a lighter. I light it before handing it to him. "And I suppose i'm to young to be smoking to some people but I highly doubt anyone will care." I take another drag, blowing smoke through my nose. "Not like it's weed or anything which is, sadly, illegal." I rub the side of my head, my hair still managing to look disheveled even after a thorough combing. I did my best to rub it down flat but to no avail. "i am an adult pretty much anyone. High School and two jobs, complete hell."

He took the cigarette, slowly putting it to his mouth. "Hey I'm not judging, sometimes you just need something to take the edge away." He commented. "Add in a family to the equation and no body would question it." William cracked a crooked, nearly pained smile before lightly laughing. "Trust me I've been in that little slice of hell, it will get better."

"Mhm true, almost finished with senior year. So what do you do for a living? I work at Taco BelI had and Spencer's. Free food and cheap clothes." I give a guttural laugh. "You have a family?" I look the man up and down, trying to come up with an age for him in my head. "My name's Kayden by the way," I say, realizing I hadn't told him yet.

"I'm the cofounder of a chain of restaurants." He said sharply not really liking having to go into details about his work. "And yes I have a family, complete with its own problems." Again he reframed from mentioning the children, he didn't want to have to talk about them either. "William." He offered her a hand to shake. So much for the cigarette taking the edge off.

I give a nod, reaching out to shake his hand in return. "So what brings you to this party?" I ask him, deciding he didn't look look like someone who would go to this type of party, but then I don't exactly fit in either.

"An invitation and promise of free alcohol." The man answered simply. "And time away from my wife." It was sad but true, he just wanted to be away for a little.

"How old's your wife?" I ask, curious if perhaps an age difference was what was causing his relationship problems, after my last ex had been somewhat, per say, violent, I had stayed away from the dating categories.

"She's going to be 31 this year..." Next month in fact, just something else for her to cry about. He was so sick of her whining all the time. Could she not see this hurt him as well? "But why does that matter?"

"Just figuring you out," I tell him, smirking. "Relationship problems? I was guessing maybe an edge gap, perhaps money?" I shrug, "I like trying to figure people out, people watching. Not to into large social gatherings but I love discovering about people for some reason." I shrug again, "Just a hobby of mine."
