Day Five - Continued


The Shiner blinks twice at you before turning in the direction of the woods opposite of the trail that lead you into the clearing. She takes a few steps before pausing to look back at you. It seems that she wants you to follow...if that's possible...

A little uneasy, you begin to walk behind her. Kit happily runs along at her side; you wish you could share in his enthusiasm. As you reach the tree line, the other Shiners begin to slowly follow, keeping a short distance from you.

The doe leads you through a few sparse saplings. A dense fern covering hides the ground, and you nearly trip on an exposed root more than once. Though dawn is approaching, the trees above block out almost all light, making it so very dark. The only light comes from the blaring yellow of the Shiners' eyes that cut through the lingering night like a Ny'Vene's tooth.

As you venture deeper into the darkness, the crickets and early birds seem to quiet. It soon becomes apparent to you that you have no idea where you are. It is only getting darker and darker... The sky seems to have vanished. And yet, Kit is as happy as ever. This is the only thing keeping you from snatching him up and booking it in the opposite direction.

The doe stops just at the top of a steep ravine. Cautiously, you step up next to her. All you can see is a pitch abyss- but then her eyes focus in on a spot just aside a massive boulder. You see now why they have come to you.

Curled in a ball is a small fawn. He looks up at the doe, who you assume is his mother. His legs are spindly and awkward, and small cuts crisscross over his body. Perhaps he'd fallen? Faelora do not posses the equipment for climbing sheer sides.

Before you can stop him, Kit joyously bounds down, his more agile form making it safely to the bottom. He greets the fawn, yipping and nosing about. The Shiners are waiting, standing around the edges of the ravine. A few are stamping and snorting impatiently. You don't like the look of some of those antlers, especially paired with the bone masks.

With the little light given from the eyes of the Shiners, you try to seek out the best path. The sides are a combination of dirt, scraggly bushes, and rocks of various sizes. A bit to the right is are a few slabs of stone jutting out, bushes clinging to the earth above them. To the left are roots dangling out, and loose dirt. Neither of these options thrill you, but if you can balance both the fawn's and your own weight, you might be able to make it easily without slipping back down. It's not deep enough that you can't get out on your own, but a slip with something heavy could end badly for both of you.
