i have a male a female of the same species my female is my starter can starters not breed or something? all my other caught pets can be selected but not my starter

i took her out and i still cannot breed her

Your starter is still an adolescent. It has to become an adult before it can breed. Wait for awhile and look at its profile page under Maturity.
