Hello everyone! After about four days of being here, I've decided to set up my own breeding project! I've decided to call them Black Cherry Vulnyx because their colors are themed around dark blues (that look black) and red. So, here is my goal:
Currently, these are the pets I own to help me with this project:
============================================================================
Important things to remember: Currently, all of my starters- except Red Velvet- for this project are adolescent.
I will frequently update/edit this post.
I also decided to create a link to their family tree! (which is just two of the starters for right now)
Find it here:
============================================================================
Now that I have discussed my project, I just wanted to say that I'm not asking for help, but it would be appreciated.
The things I'll need are listed here: (For my personal need and just in case anyone wants to help)
-Greater Pet Dye
Of course, I am willing to buy these items as well, as long as they are decently priced and I have time to get the gold for them.
Once I'm done, and I have a few for myself, I plan on keeping some of them and selling the rest--- If you help, then you get a free offspring in the end (if interested) and a bit of a share of the gold!
Also, if anyone has tips for me, I'll gladly listen! (:
Firstly, I'd like to say that that's a really pretty goal for your project and that I'd be interested in buying an offspring when you're done. I also have some tips for you:
1. It's generally a good idea to use essence to generate starting pets OR use dye on the final pair from the project. This is because both dyes and essence are expensive and it's a waste to combine them because generated pets already have the right colours and other pets don't necessarily. If you use both you end up breeding the generated pets with good colours to the pets with other colour and have to dye them anyway.
1.5. I the case of this project it might be ok to use both, but you probably want to count how many dyes you need and dye the pets that need them before breeding. Otherwise you might also need dye for their offspring.
2. You can only tell if a pet has carried or hidden traits after they've been genetically tested with a genetic testing kit. There are people who can do this for you for free if you can't/ don't want to buy an exceptional genetic testing kit from the diamond shop.
2.5. I don't explain this very well, and you don't need to understand it to do breeding projects. It's basically just to support the fact that you need them to be genetic tested and telling you about hidden traits. I'll link a guide later on that is more comprehensive.
Pet's traits come from 2 letters in their code (like DNA). Letters are associated with traits, and N means nothing. For example, Thorn has Lynx (trait D) carried in the G1 slot. This means he has G1: ND. For this trait to be visible D would have to be the first letter, but N always comes before any other letters, which come in alphabetical order. Visible lynx would be G1: DD He also has G3: NN, meaning he has nothing in that slot. The point I'm trying to bring up here is that he has hidden traits in M1 and M2. This is when the pet has two non-N letters in the same slot, like how he has M1: DG. You can see D as visible, but he can also pass on G to his children. Hidden traits have purple writing on the pet's profile, but you have to have them genetic tested for them to come up as purple.
3. On your item wishlist you have magical pies. These are very expensive and only speed up the project a bit. They're mainly used for max stat projects that take much longer than a project like this. Also, with the finished pets, you mention that you'd keep a few for yourself and sell extras. I like to keep just a male and a female from my projects (MAKE SURE THEY CAN BREED!), that way I can get as many as I like to sell and can take up minimal room in the stable.
4. This is the thing that helped me learn everything about doing projects and I'd definitely recommend reading through relevant sections: Xavi's 6-vis Breeding Guide!
Wow, that was really long! If you want I can edit this to just be the first part to get rid of the clutter on the thread. I hope I helped at least a bit, and good luck!

Yes, this is very helpful! Thank you!
I was sort of noticing some of these things as you mentioned. It'd probably be very much more expensive to dye all the pets and try to breed, rather than just try to get the outcome I want and then dye them.
And yes, when I said I wanted to keep a few for myself, I meant only a male and female! ^-^
Also, I have one question; you said you'd be interested in buying one once they're done! This may be a while... BUT! The question I wanted to ask is what do you think I should price them at?

Now that is a very good question XD
It's taken me a very long time, but I feel like I now have a system that I like for my breeding pairs (each visible is 2 trait points, that took me a while to work out when I joined):
non-themed project: 2.5k per trait points
themed project: 3k per trait point
regens: 1.5k per trait point
If you want to see how that works out on actual pets, here's my sales thread
That being said, I don't sell many offspring from my pairs (at all), and I see some people who set much higher prices and have massive lists of pre-orders. To be honest, I've kind of given up and just breed mainly for my self now. If I sell any that's just a bonus.
In the end the price is up to you and what you think they're worth
