How do I get them besides buying em with real money?

You can buy diamonds from other players by going to the Exchange. This is located under the Trade tab on the top bar. Go there and click "search offers" and you'll see all the diamonds people have listed up for sale. Sometimes people will be selling them in the item auctions forum as well, however the exchange is generally the quickest way to get them other than buying them with real cash.
