I see a lot of discussion about this right now in general chat and that moves rather quickly. Currently working on setting this up, but I figured it might help if we have a discussion thread for this.

The goal of this thread:
Suggest and discuss Sylestia's economy and go over the pros and cons and possible changes that each would lead to. As this will be a joint effort/compilation thread as well as a discussion thread, I've decided to place this in general forums instead of the suggestion forum.

So, what do YOU think of Sylestia's economy and what do you think might fix it?

Limitations

Breeding Limits
~Incorporate licenses. All players start with a set amount of breedings. Upgrading the license through some sort of site currency expands the amount of breedings allowed.
*Renew Licenses
~Limit the number of times Males can be bred.
*Set Limit
*Limit based on a stat
~Extend the cool down period on females.

Hatchery Limits
Hatchery space is currently infinite, which allows infinite breeding. Make tabs of hatchery space purchasable through some sort of site currency.

Breeding Fees
Essentially vet fees that the site charges every time a breeding is done. Discourages mass breeding.

Pet Exchanges/Sales

Exchange Pets for Gold/Scales/Currency

Sanctuary

Minimum Sales Limit
Implementing a minimum purchase amount would alleviate the market of incredibly cheap pets.

I really like the idea of licenses (original idea goes to Zenaku) limiting breeding!

Licenses could be a 'permanent item' like an account upgrade, the quality of which being shown on the userpage

Good things:
1) Would limit new users
2) Gold sink
3) Limits the flow of new pets
4) Veteran users could still do large breeding projects, as they would have the gold to buy a license

Bad things:
1) Doesn't solve the problem of the pets already here
2) Might be a deterrent for new users (I don't really see why though)
3) Might inadvertently create a 'base price' which I know Krin has been shying away from
4) Could cause an issue with breeding pets on the market, so would need coding to where the limit was reached by the recipient of the egg

One question I don't understand what the licenses are. My thought was that you meant something like a Zolnixi License that allowed you to breed Zolnixi, but then you mentioned a limit on point 4 of the bad. What sort of license are you suggesting?

What Amaya said. Would you mind going into more detail of how the license would work please?

Well, I was thinking of similar to (once again referencing another site, sorry lol) Pokefarm. What their license system is is actually for adopting, but it's the same general idea
It's basically a numerical limit on adoptions (or in this case, breeding) in a cooldown period of a day (which, on Sylestia, I think should be a week)
You'd start out with a very very low number one, one that allows 1-2 pets to be bred a week. You would then buy an upgraded one once you were able to, one that, say, allows 3-4 pets to be bred. After that, maybe 9-10, then 15 or so, then 20 and capping out around (of course this number could vary, but for this case) 50.

In this way, veteran users would simply buy an upgraded license and be able to carry on their breeding projects, but it would limit newer users within a reasonable domain.
Does that make sense? ^^

Sorry, I first found Sylestia by ads on the old Pokefarm, so I have a tendency to lop the two together in terms of people's familiarity with the site ^^;

Oh ok that makes sense, for ease of understanding I would call it Incrementing Breeding Limits. I think paying for it as a permanent upgrade would be fine but if Krin didn't want to impose a monetary limitation it could I guess be linked to level, most veteran breeders would be at level cap.
