On the cave mission, I'm supposed to investigate and then go the to the village to tell the deputy info. How do I?

Continue to explore. Soon you will complete the quest and it will let you go back to the sheriff with your new task. You just have to keep exploring XD Like literately, just keep clicking on "keep exploring" until you're done XD
