Undertale I understand (No pun intended) and the Sonic franchise does it terribly (06 is a prime example of time travel making zero sense), but what happened with Mario?

the 64 one,and most of the games.It don't usually have a day/night cycle and in 64 it's a Narnia effect with the paintings.

A lot of games don't have a day/night cycle.... Mostly platformers like Mario.

Like, do most Mario games even have a time cycle? Most of the ones I've played don't seem to...

Ehhh not really. Its always night in some kingdoms, always day in others, and perpetually sunset in a couple. The only exception is New Donk City and the Desert Kingdom.
