You can click the Pencil icon in the bottom right of one of your posts to edit it, so you don't have to keep making new posts for each species.

A few quick questions, when is the event going to begin? I know it was scheduled for the 15th, but did something happen? Also, when is this themed design thing going to end?

I don't know about the locking time of this thread...
But as to Winter Festival, when you go to the exploration, world map page, you can read:
"Winter Festival to Begin Sometime Between 12/15 and 12/22"
(Works also for many other pages like Account Overview)
So I guess it's goint to start soon :) We just need to be patient.

It was scheduled for the 12th, and got rescheduled for sometime between the 15th and the 22nd.
Yes, about half the pages are in one format, and the other half, another. One half doesn't show those "alerts", you are referring to, any "events" (Defeat the Vorkids that are attacking The Sanctuary of Sarielle!) or if any tab is Orange (notification within that tab) while the other half shows those things.
For example, the Forums is one of the former, and the World Map is one of the latter.
