A Starry Night
Star,Star,way up high,
Ball of Gas in the sky,
You make me want to fly,
Up,Up,Up and wave goodbye,
To the sleeping earth nearby.
(Is this Good?)

Fire. Stone. A rose of white embers.
No. Not now. I desperately attempted to board the cracked windows, shut out the light. If even the faintest light of a candle shone through the black curtains, the bombs would fall. I twisted the bronze ring around my finger as I looked up at the white ceiling of the cell. The cell that I had loved in forever. The cell all citizens of Greeve were locked into when the first ribbons of color from the sunset began to streak across the sky.
I couldn't fall asleep, or the wall would crumble, the windows would shatter, and the roof would cave in under the weight of the memory of the night of the Burning. The Burning of Greeve was a nightmare that a night light and a cup of water couldn't get rid of. Only the secure fortress that I had raised in my conscience could keep it out. Sometimes small snippets breached the walls, but then they fell into the trenches and were sent back home.
I turned over on my bed and started. A white shoot was sprouting from the marble floor of the cell. No. I had thought it had been only a small blade of grass. Its roots eroded the walls and grew across the trenches, letting the scene march across.
The black flames raged across the ground outside. I had witnessed a Burning before, but I was still awestruck. They consumed it all. The only things untouched were the various strone cubes that lined the pathways with tinted windows. The black fire came every four years and washed away all that had been.
We would rebuild our civilization when all was reduced to nothing. There would be no ashes or embers left over. Just... nothing.
I groped my mother's hand and she squeezed it back. Suddenly, people began to cry out. The fire was climbing up the sides of our cubicle. The walls began to invert and become atoms of nothing. I screamed as the Burning went out of control and the buildings protecting us were destroyed with us trapped inside. We would all become nothing, and we would never rebuild.
A hole opened in the wall behind me,and all dove through to escape death. I was the last to jump through. The black flames licked my skin and indescribable agony ripped through me. I ran away, fire leaping at my heels. I didn't know if anyone else had gotten away. My little brother...
I ran my fingers over the black marks in my arms, shaking. Who knew if the flames started eating there way underground tomorrow? All would be lost.

he had seen the broken years
and the first fog over heaven,
the hues of twilight broken up
& the darkness in the nightmare
his thoughts in his mind,
he was conscious
