I've managed (with immense difficulty) to kill two bosses in the festival zone so far and neither of them have dropped anything. Are they meant to? Or am I just wasting my time? I've used so many healing and revival elixirs in those battles and got absolutely nothing for them. I won't be bothering with the bosses any more if they don't drop stuff. But I'm concerned I'm doing something wrong?

Advice very very appreciated.

EDIT: I just found some wings in my inventory so the second boss must have given me those. The first boss I killed definitely didn't give me anything though.

Also - are killing bosses and buying with tokens the only ways to get avatar items?

Yes, bosses drop stuff. Even if they don't drop anything particularly special, you still get useful stuff every time. You can see exactly what you got in the battle log.

Also yes, those are the only ways to get festival avatar items unless you trade or sell with other players.
Actually, I might be wrong, but it is possible that regular enemies drop avatar items from time to time.

I haven't managed to 'kill' any bosses, so how do you do it because I have tried like 10 times!

Honestly I've only done 2 myself and it was half pure luck. It'd be better to make this question into a thread of your own so people notice it because I've only been on the site a week so am very much still learning myself.

You want Max stat pets or level 60 Fabled pets. You want them to specialize in one 'trait' so that it is over 500 points, or over 8,000 for health.( I use these Venes, https://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=2294278
https://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=2510326
https://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=2246972)

You will want to set up a team in this order: Mission pet health, high health items(with one pt as dexterity or agility); Mission pet intelligence, high intelligence items(Magical damage, or Healing abilities); Mission pet strength, High strength items(Physical Damage)

You need to be careful on how you battle them, strike when you can, heal every time you can and have a large stock of high level healing potions.

Yeah, basically what Draumrkopa said. And you should read a few guides on building a battle party.
I like having a high heath, a high self-healing, and a heavy hitter for my party. That way I can switch them around while I heal the other.
