I was perusing the Trade Broker and looking at stuff (what else would I do there, right?) and was rather appalled at some of the prices.

More often than not I see prices that are several times the resell price; even on Legendary and Mythical things I have seen prices that are nearly a million in gold for something that has a resale value of, for example, 8,000g.

This is pure gouging plain and simple; I do not necessarily begrudge a profit but really now, is it really necessary to put ridiculously high prices on things like that?

So I was thinking that a pricing cap be implemented or have some sort of set-up where people have their own shop so they can put whatever price their heart desires.

I do not mean to sound sour but at some point there has to be some sanity, most, if not all, are not going to spend 900,000 for something that resells for 7000+/- 600g.

Just an idea.

I find that most things that are up for 1 million gold are things that are pretty rare, and often will sell for that price (or items of equal worth). If a person is willing to pay that price for the item, I don't see a need for a price cap. If the item doesn't sell, people do tend to drop the price incrementally until it does sell. The item auction area tends to work very well for people looking for a certain item for a certain price (or sell items for certain prices or other items).

If you do happen to see an item on the broker that is a little too high for you, you can always message the seller and politely ask if they might sell for lower. The worst that happens is they refuse *shrugs* The broker really is that shop where you can sell something for whatever your heart desires. It's the buyer's decision whether to pay the asking price.

(To be honest, the resell prices don't really mean much. They're the pittance you get if you don't want to take the time to try and sell them yourself, or at least that's how I look at them. Essences, philters, and avatar items don't even have a resell value >>)

Idk about other people, but half the time I put items up on the broker not to sell them but rather to clear out inventory space. But I do agree with all of what Mikazukichan wrote as well. Some items are definitely worth the high price tag. And sometimes even that 1mil or so price tag can feel low!

Ah lastly, not sure if this is helpful at all, but if one doesn't want to view the high priced items, one can limit their search in the broker, to items between 1 and 100k (for example) if it's too unpleasant to see the more expensively priced stuff.

I'm not quite sure I understand your point as I'm not sure where you'd obtain information on "resale values" to be able to determine that those values are are significantly lower than the prices the items are listed at on the Broker.

Are we talking about the "resale" value if you move the item to the Sell Area in your Inventory? Logically, prices on the Trade Broker would be higher than the value in the Sell Area otherwise why would anyone ever place the item on the Trade Broker?

If items are in abundance and there is little or no demand, the price will have to drop or none will sell. If items are rare and there's a lot of demand, the price will naturally increase. If items are in abundance and demand is high, the price will be somewhere in between. If items are rare and demand is low, the price will be somewhere in between. Supply and demand, and all that jazz.

I don't think there needs to be a price cap... People can always work towards buying something they really want (and there can be good deals to be had if you bide your time). I really would recommend setting priorities and goals and working towards them to anyone - it really does provide a great sense of achievement.
