I think the dispute was over what lowest possible hand beats a straight in poker. However, I would still go with flush as the correct answer, because you did not specify the type of straight.

And yes, oxygen is correct according to Oxford English Dictionary.

But you wouldn't be able to specify type of straight as easily as you would be able to say "any straight" if that makes sense. Like... there aren't actually any types of straights to be specified.

Could say "what's the lowest other hand that beats a straight" or "what hand beats any straight" but that's different from how it was worded.

@Faiona,

was everyone that played entered, or just the people that answered first?

(Sometimes I wait and see what the first person posts and then answer so I can pretend I'm not dumb)

The only one I did not truly know that I still got a point for was the True Blood one, had to Google that.

I probably knew 17 off the top of my head, just was not always able to type fast enough.

not the element one - the poker one?

you didn't say "beats any straight" so the answer *is* a higher straight - I dunno who said a higher straight first but there was at least two of us, and maybe keep the point for the person who said the other answer but add the point for the straight?

The question was what was the lowest hand that beats a straight, a higher straight is still a straight. So I'm taking flush since it's a different hand than a straight.

Alrighty. Technically if you google your question exactly the answer that comes up is a higher straight, so that is why I asked for it to be looked at. So thank you for doing that!
