Hey, my fiance is buying me a HP Stream 11.6 inch next month to replace my budget friendly Toshiba tablet. However, because I'm both use to and partial to Toshiba laptops/PCs I've got little to know experience with HP as a computer/laptop company. I was hoping that those of you that use HP PCs/laptops would be willing to tell me what your experiences are and possibly what you may recommend.

Before I got my current computer, a macbook (I do not suggest if your career isn't in the creative industry like me.), I had one of the cheapest, cheapest HP laptops available. It cost $300 and lasted me 4 years. Technically I could still use it but because the motherboard is what broke it randomly shuts off 2-9 min after starting up.

But in those 4 years, aside from a virus that I probably downloaded myself from some shifty website, I never had any problems with it.

Thanks for you experience with the HP laptop Deathdust. :) I appreciate it.

Out of curiosity though, do you have any mid to high end laptop suggestions? I'm wanting to weigh my options and research for a better one for my fiance and I to share later on(in a couple of years). You don't have to restrict you suggestions to just HP.

My very first laptop was a dinosaur hp pavillion (probably one of the first of that line, honestly. IT was olllld.) It still worked perfectly fine, tot he point one of my housemates actually preferred mine to her newer laptop (Which i wanna say was either Toshiba, Asus, or Acer) and would borrow it on occasion. The only issue I had with ti was that whatever allows the computer to connect via wifi was so outdated that it would not connect to the brand new wifi connection my university had. Someone with more knowledge of computers than I had at the time could probably replace that bit no problem at all, otherwise the computer was perfect. (I also had to replace the keyboard on that one due to a malfunctioning spacebar, but that was due to overuse in its early years and neglect int he years between that time and when I ended up with it. Replacing the keyboard was something that I was able to do eaasily myself as well, so no big deal)

When my apartment complex switched their ineternet provider to the same as my university, I had to quickly get a new laptop since my uni maintained a requirement to have laptops due to a high reliance on internet communication for homework assignemtns etc. So when I went home that break, I ahd to get a new one asap. I ende dup going for the cheapest I could find, which was a cheap samsung laptop that never really worked to begin with. I ahted it, and replaced it as soon as i could afford. 0/10, would not recommend. (It barely worked for its intended hoemwork purposes, it was awful.)

My next laptop is actually the one i am on at this very moment. My sister had gotten herself an HP pavillion abotu a year before I got my samsung (or even the original pavillion i had) and she loved it. She still has that computer, and it is her only computer to this day. (Although she is currently in the market for a new one, only because she wants one with hgiher memory since hers is almost run dry. She does games and art, and uses her computer more than anyone I know combined.) Also note, her pavillion has been super durable. Shes dropped it...2 or 3? times now. Every time the screen ahs broken, but it was fairly cheap to replace each time and the computer is still running perfectly fine.

So anyway, when Is tarted looking I opted for a pavillion myself. I got a touchscreen one and loved it. I still kinda went for the cheap end though and the one i got was kinda slow when it came to games and stuff. When i got my envy abotu a year ago, I gave my pavillion to my mom and she abbsoltuely loves it. ITs the best computer shes personally had. (Which is why I'm using it atm. I'm hanging out at her house which only has wired internet so i dont feel like goign through the toruble of switching the line to mine lol. So using hers for now) It was a lwoer end one, and she can watch videos, play games (jigsaw, word games,e tc, nto hgih end things like mmorpgs or anythign like that), and she can skype with me while I'm at school.

Now trhat I know a bit more about computers and what I actually need in one, I splurged and got myself my current one, which is an HP Envy 15t. I absolutely love it. I use it for everything, and it is a fairly fast machine. For example, I can explore in one of the new zones/fest zones and compared to other computers I have had, its as if my avi got herself a car and is driving it aroudn the zone, its so fast. I've installed and played games on there and it is completely unfazed. It is my absolute baby and I hoenstly don't see myself gettign a new laptop for years to come. (I do want a desktop, but that is unrelated. My dad also has an hp desktop as well, whcih i think hes had for almost 10 ehyars now. Logn overdue for an update on that one, its dieing a slwo painful death courtesy of dads inability to avoid viruses...but hey, tis lasted us thiis long and is still draggign its feet along).

So tl:dr, my family has pretty much been exclusively hp and the machines last years and years in our experience. All the problems I've ever had were outdated hardware on older machines even after heavy use. Defintiely reccommend hp, and I hoenstly don't see myself buyign elsewhere.

This is only my second laptop so I only know from secondhand experience, but my mom bought an HP at the same time I had (2008) for ~$800 and it lasted her until a few months ago. She really only used it for internet browsing and very little video streaming though, so it could've been that.
