Ugh. I'm probably gonna go on a small rant here so bear with me. I'm going to say out right that common sense would say that either Mr Someguy and Miss Ladyperson would be the first suspect. They both have a reason to kill him. Mr Someguy even more so. As Miss Ladyperson left him and he got fired. And Miss Ladyperson was probably playing both men holding Someguy for after her eventual divorce of Mr Deadnow. And I can't see an reason for Mr Deadnow to open the door for either of them since he obviously dislikes Mr Someguy and probably has no wish to see a cheating, scheming woman like Miss Ladyperson. And the window shattered outward so no one broke in.

But if you use psychological profiling of the three suspects, Mr Nextdoor would more suspicious. He is my answer. As he could easily be a sufferer of a psychosis that could cause memory loss, blackouts or sleepwalking that developed after the loss of his wife. It could be seen in his obvious distress even a few years after her death. Most people react sadly but don't breakdown like that. Plus the hamster blood found on the knife and the mummified cat in the basement point towards it. As it's suggested by professional profilers that most killers may start with smaller animals and eventually grow bored and search for a larger target even if it's on a subconscious level. He could have easily ditched the bloody knife outdoors in a bush to take care of later, or hide it in the house. And he was the last one to see Mr Deadnow. Plus how did he get into the house in the morning if Mr Deadnow wasn't alive to answer the door.

So in his drunken stupor Mr Deadnow could have easily spoke of Mr Nextdoor's wife and sent him into relapse. He started a fight and they broke the window. He shoved Mr Deadman and he landed by the table. Reaching for the first thing he could, he grabbed the poker and swung it, bouncing Mr Deadnow's head off the table and effectively either stunning or knocking him out there which explains the lack of expression as the facial muscles would reflexively relax. On an adrenaline high and wanting to finish the job, he goes to the kitchen for a knife. He stood behind Mr Deadnow, grabbing his shirt to pull him back and stabbed him before letting him slump back over the table. The awkward angle only allowed for 2 inches of the 7 inch knife to enter. He could have nicked an artery for a quicker death but it's most likely that he bleed out while unconscious. After killing Mr Deadnow, he left through the front door and didn't lock it. Probably was too drunk to remember most of the events last night.

So on that note I would say I choose Mr Nextdoor.
