please tell me of any digital art makers that you know of, I'd be more than happy to try them out because I've never done digital art before...

Saint Tool SAI and Photoshop are your best shot. Both have pen sensitivity applied to a tablet (I reccomend Wacom Intuos!) if you have one.
SAI has a free 30 day trial, but after, you must pay to continue using all the awesomeness. But no worries! There's a good, free full version on MediaFire that I use. It hasn't caused me any trouble and worms like the full version.

GIMP is a free program, it's sort of the poor-man's Photoshop, but it can work just as well as any program(check out dCTb if you need proof). It can be a bit daunting to learn to use, which is what turns a lot of people away from it, but it really is a great program. I mostly use it for editing now, but i still reccommend it. Official site here.
Paint Tool SAI is my personal favorite, it can be used even with a mouse. It's not free, i believe it's $50. (But. Uh. Some. People might possibly know ways to get, ah, around that. I personally have a copy lent from a friend, but i'll be purchasing my own when i can in the future. Very good to support suff you like.) It has a 30 day free trial, after which you can USE the program but can't save. Official site here.

Try 'program' rather than 'maker'!
Oh, i've also heard good things about FireAlpaca, but i haven't personally tried it yet. I do know it's free and works on Mac as well as Windows(Sai doesn't work on Mac). Corel Painter has a lot of fans too, again, haven't tried it.
Honestly, it also depends on what you wanna try. some programs are more suited for painting, others for vectoring, some are all-around ones. I'm assuming all-around would be best till you got comfortable amd situated with drawing.
Also, tablets. Wacom is an excellent brand, i've had my Bamboo Pen&Touch for 4 years now, and it's only just now giving me spits of trouble(might be my laptop though, the thing hates me and i hate it). They discontinued the Pen&Touch line, but whatever is $99 with just a pen and a couple buttons now is the same thing. They have wireless options now too, as well as more complex stuff, with screens or bigger sizes, etc etc.
Monoprice is the other brand i've heard of, for awhile there was nothing but good stuff, recently there's been some bad reviews, but i haven't used one so. There was one other brand, can't remember now. Wacom is proooobably the most popular maker of tablets though.
Be sure you're looking at ones suited for drawing or painting, not photos or doodles -- i believe drawing ones have better pen sensitivity(aka it picks up how hard or light you press the stylus to the tablet better), than something not suited for that.
thanks soo much, I was asking for feedback on a drawing not too long ago and they suggested starting on my digital art, but I had no idea where to begin. thanks again
Before moving to a computer always improve your skills in traditional media. Even professionals use paper before digitizing, I know because I am almost one, and work with many every day. If you're not comfortable or willing to spend the money to use proper programs and tools, don't. Continue with traditional media.
No, you don't need to spend money on making digital artwork but if you really want the best and easiest tools to make it, then you might have to cough some up, especially for a tablet. There's a lot of free software, as mentioned, but it's incredibly difficult to create any digital images without a tablet.
Art isn't about creating realistic or digital images, it's expression and if you enjoy using traditional media (by this I mean pencil, pen, markers, paint, paper, canvas) then continue doing what you enjoy.

wait....you have to pay to use sai??? Is that just for the full version?
Aspiring artist is now very crushed....
I'd maybe be willing to spend a few bucks on art, since it's the only thing I'm even semi-good at
