Welcome to Sylestia! =D
I know the game can seem overwhelming at the start, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it with time. =)
1. Themed pets are basically pets with a certain colour palette, that usually can only be obtained during festivals. For example, a lily pad nephini will have a green/yellow/pink coloration of a lily pad.
Original themed pets that are obtained during the festivals are often called "tagged" pets, as they have a purple tag indicating their theme on the pet's profile page. Eg https://www.sylestia.com/view/pets/?petid=876373 Pets that are bred from these tagged themed are called "purebreds". Purebreds are basically offspring of tagged or other purebred of the same theme, resulting in a baby with the came colouration of the theme, but without the tag.
Themed pets can be obtained though various ways, depending on the festival. During festivals, there is usually a festival zone, where themed pets can be found. These are the normal theme pets. There is usually also a special way to get special theme pets. These theme pets are often exclusive pets (ie cannot be found in the wild/obtained easily), and you will have to complete certain tasks, or collect certain items in order to get the pet. One of these special features in the past was a wheel, where you had to find wheel tickets in order to use the wheel, and there was a low chance to get an exclusive themed pet from the wheel. These themed pets are called "wheel pets". These wheel/exclusive themed pets are often very expensive, as it is difficult to obtain them, and there are limited amount in the game.
You can read more about themed pets and festivals in this guide: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=16344&page=1#3
2. Pricing is a very iffy thing.... There is no fixed pricing for anything, but generally the more traits a pet has, the more expensive it'll be. But essentially the price of a pet is based on what the seller thinks it's worth.
First off, the major thing that affects the price is whether or not a pet is a themed pet (be it tagged or purebred). Tagged themed are worth a lot usually, but purebreds with a lot of traits are also very expensive.
There are also Fabled pets, and the normal pets. Fabled pets are pets that are difficult to obtain in the wild, and are "special" in that they have specialised egglings, and take 7 days to cool down after breeding instead of the usual 3 days. The current Fabled species are Aeridini (obtainable in the fest zone during spring fest), Griffi (obtainable in the fest zone during winter fest), Lighira (obtainable in the fest zone during summer fest), Nephini (obtainable in the fest zone and 3rd region, just very very rare), Ny'vene (obtained only by buying from the arena shop in the 3rd region), and Ryori (obtainable in the fest zone during fall fest). Puffadores are technically not fabled, but tend to be more expensive as they can only be obtained by buying from a shop in the 3rd region.
Other things that can affect sale prices are colouration. Does the pet have a pretty colour combination, or is it murky or pale.
The number of trait, type of traits, and combination of traits can also affect pricing. Some traits are more popular than others, and some traits blend better with other traits while others are difficult to match.
Even between species, some species are just more popular than others, and thus are priced more.
It's hard to know a price for a pet, but you can always check the advanced search, or the pet auction forum for a reference. You can also drop by the general chat and ask the players online their opinions on how much a pet should be worth. (You can also drop by there any time to ask questions about anything. Most players there have been on the game for a while, and we're generally friendly. =) )
If you're interested in breeding to sell, here's a guide on that: https://www.sylestia.com/forums/?thread=15507
Hope I didn't overwhelm you with the long answer. =P |

There's different ways to make gold but what I think would be good for a new player is to try to get through all the current story. And as you do this, you'll be able to unlock the missions in Esior's Haven and then Sanctuary of Saerielle. Missions can bring in a surprising amount of gold if you keep doing them.
To succeed at missions, I personally like having a mission pet dedicated to a particular type of skill needed for a mission. So a pet with all it's stats in strength for a mission that's required stat is strength. The gear for the pet should also be gear strong in the needed stat. And also, you can often find cheap pets for sale that are stronger in particular stats that might help with later on mission difficulties.
If you have trouble with mission success just pm me and I'll see what I can do to help.
To keep mission pets organized, I give them a title to reflect what their purpose is. So if a pet's for strength missions I'll name it something like Strong Audra. If it's dexterity, the pet will be something like Adept Samantha.
I also personally like making gold from battling. Particularly from the dungeon of the forsaken and then doing tasks in the third region. I'll also hold onto avatar items from fests for a while and sell them later. Other people like making gold from breeding and selling pets. I think there's also people who do art for gold as well. There's probably other ways, too, that I'm not thinking of. |
