Edit: I'm liking Lehana's idea below better than what I posted.
I think this idea is going to be shot down but I'll post it anyway. Maybe I'm wrong?
How to put this... I like the new aurleon redesigns but I find myself looking at some of my aurleons that were designed before and I don't think I would have done that combination for the new design. I think certain things can look better on one or the other. I hope that makes sense what I'm saying.
Now, I know that a lot of people didn't like the old design at all and since this would be an optional quest it wouldn't affect them. But I was thinking of a questline that people could do to return their aurleons to the old design. I certainly wouldn't do this on every bird I have but I have a few that I'd love to do this on. Perhaps it can be limited by gold or difficulty or only so many times so often. I think that to make things simple aurleons of both types should be able to breed together and the offspring should probably be automatically the new design. I was thinking it might be too complicated to make it where the old designs could breed to make old designs though I wouldn't be opposed to it. I'm still sorting my ideas out on it as well.
If nothing else I saved most of the pictures of the old designs so once we get profiles I suppose that's one way to remember.

I think I'd support this idea if it isn't too difficult to implement.
I mostly love the new Aurleons. The males are so much better looking than they used to be, and even with this option I wouldn't switch most of mine back... That said, there are a couple of design choices on some of the traits that I don't really care for so I wouldn't mind the option to switch the looks back on a couple of pets.
I wouldn't even mind if instead of a quest, it took diamonds to switch a single pet back to the old design. It could be like renaming. Buy the magical pie equivalent in the diamond shop for 100 diamonds, and for certain pets it would revert them to the old design. It could work on both genders of Aurleons and the male Sylvorpas.

I'd go for this idea as well. Something not too hard to implement but would make people happy. Anyone can raise gold and buy some diamonds from the Exchange if they can't buy diamonds with real money. With this idea it could generate income for the site as well. Actually, I think this is a much better idea than what I was thinking of.

As much as the feature would be appreciated [and don't get me wrong, I do support it for those who prefer their pets on the older art], it doesn't seem very practical with how the system is set up.
Pets are used on a image building base, any new genes/mutations made on the new base would not work with the old base, which could lead to errors. Keeping the older art up-to-date like with the newer base requires more resources, of which could be used elsewhere [ie. new avatar clothing] for the site, seems to not be very much worth it considering it seems the majority of users prefer to use the revamp's art.
Also in the perspective of a potential user, seeing an older style [one of which having many anatomical flaws] used amongst the latest, more accurately styled art makes the presentation of the site itself less professional due to inconsistencies.
Half support. As much as it would be nice option to have on the site, it doesn't seem worth the sacrifices required to create and maintain as of right now since the site is still small and growing.

What if it was heavily restricted. Where the aurleon couldn't be beyond a certain ID number and/or can't have any newer mutations. I would think that with that there would be few overall ever changed and we wouldn't have to worry about new art being made. The old aurleon design would be pretty much done.

No offence, but I think it's lots of trouble?
I know a good couple of people doesn't like the new vs the old design, but this game's a beta and we've got to get ready to see looooots of change and if we had to get this thing "coded" for every pet that get designed, it could be horribly big work for the admins no?
I don't hate the old Aurleon and the new ones can be as loved as the older no? o.o"
It's a matter of getting used first and accept to love it, then maybe you'll find that the new one isn't too bad, yes you'll miss old ones, but we aren't dying of it no?

It doesn't sound like a lot of trouble (you could just have a toggle option), but the idea itself doesn't make much sense to me, unless you broaden the idea and turn it into each pet can have different styles and all pets have at least 1 alternative style.
Rather than, "oh I want the 'old' style back."

Just gonna point out here that there is a "Breed" drop-down list in all the generators and descriptions, etc. with "Sylesti" as the only current option. It'd be cool if, in the future, there could be another breed of Aurleon that is simply the old design. THEN it'd be MUCH easier to implement a Diamond-bought item that switched the breed, or if that is too much it'd be nice if they offered players a month or two to freely choose whether to keep their Aurleon as Sylesti breed or to change it. Restricted to Aurleon "born" (including in eggs) before they announced it, of course.
After that you could find either breed of Aurleon in the wild, breed them, etc.
It's technically different, but still the same species of pet, so the image-based system for traits and such wouldn't have a seizure since it'd essentially be the same as adding a new species; it only shares the species name, but has a different breed name.

I like this. c:
It's already sorta kinda implemented, and can just copy all the implemented features into the different "breed".
However, I can see the problem that it's tedious to do separate art on two bases. I think it's okay to just leave the previous aurleon art with its old genes/mutations, and anything that comes after that is new base exclusive.
