I can understand why no one would ever want to dye a tagged pet, but is it a faux pas to use a genetic mutator on a tagged pet? I've seen tagged pets that have been mutated, so I know that it's technically possible to mutate a tamed tagged, but I'm just wondering if it decreases the pet's value or makes its offspring less valuable to purebred collectors.

There are a few themes I'd like to make a 6-vis project out of, and throwing in some mutators would definitely speed up the process. ^^;

The only way i could see it being an issue was if someone planning to buy the tagged wanted to mutate them on their own for a specific trait, but if you're doing a project it would probably be worth the mutators to help out the project a bit.

^Yeah if anything you can make them more valuable because you would be getting (hopefully) another visible on a tagged

I don't think it devalues them now, but I think it will in the future. In a year or several years, when new traits come out, and that tagged is no longer available to catch (to gain access of new traits on that theme), you can greater mutate the tagged pet with one of the new traits. I think this will make un-mutated tagged pets more valuable in the future (granted there is not a huge supply of un-mutated pets available in that theme).

Personally, I have started trying to gather enough Tagged of Themes I like so that I can keep some of them un-mutated. In the event that the species develops new traits I like, I'll still be able to use a Greater Mutator on at least one pet of that Theme.

The Themed Trait Disruptors can also give a Themed pet a trait that Theme never had before, provided you have never bred the pet. Of course, resisting the temptation to breed the pretty pets is difficult...

Basically, what SheVampire said.

Good examples of what she said are selling off mutated pets of older themed pets (i.e. Spooky Ryori in the middle of the summer (when people weren't sure if they were going to come back) with the only newer trait in the pool of pets), or having a monopoly on said newly mutated trait if you're heavily breeding purebreds. o:

If you wanna go a step further, you can scramble a themed pet that's out of season (i.e. if you have an unbred Wheel pet...like a Reindeer Griffi, you can scramble it to get a new gene or mutation, such as Monarch wing gene or Dragon Tail, then you'd own the only Themed Griffi with newer traits).

It's mostly effective on more exclusive pets. Pets that are more likely to come back, such as wild zone pets, have less of an effect on that. So mutating them isn't a big deal at all. c:

The only time that I've seen greater genetic mutations work against pets that doesn't count for the future (basically, mutating them during the festival or soon after, more immediately) is when they're popularly needed.
For example, say you have...some epic themed Lighira, let's go with that. Or legendary themed Lighira, even.
And say you wanted to sell it. (This example kinda makes sense with the idea to sell it moreso than keep it.)
What KaterinaSapphire said applies here: possible buyers would want to mutate their own traits (or keep em mint fresh, unmutated, unbred) on the pets for their own purposes. Mutating em would devalue it then.

Pretty much what I said has been expressed in this thread one way or another, but just gave examples of em. xD;;; Sorry.
