I don't know why but I've spent a lot of gold on the traps and I've caught 4 sylestians but the mission thing keeps saying I need to catch a pet. and I can't unlock a second slot till I catch at least 1 pet.

But I've caught 4. two are level 9 and two are level 0.

is this a common bug? or am I not doing it right?

I can't join the festival because it wants 2 pets of at least level 10. And I've been trying to unlock the permission to expand my pets party.

This might be the mission where you have to open the reward satchel to move on, but can't remember if so.

If this is the mission I think you are talking about, then you don't actually have to buy any traps. You just have to keep exploring the area and eventually you will find a pet that is the same species as your starter pet, just the opposite gender with 1 visible trait if I remember correctly. I had the same problem when I first started and it took me awhile to figure out what I had to do, so I hope this helps.

If the mission is the one Crystal is talking about, the event is scripted and you just need to explore until it's triggered.

Edit: @Crystal: My second pet has two carrieds. I think it's like, your starter is technically epic and your "second" pet is rare.

But I never got an award satchel...

But then why hasn't my friend who also played, got the pet that was like hers?

As Krin states, the event just needs to be triggered. I did this a long time ago [LOOOOOOOOONGGGG! I joined two days after the site went live :P] but I think I remember exploring and triggering an event where I saw the silhouette of a pet [male Zolnixi if I remember right. My starter is a female Nixi and the pet you should get will be the same species opposite gender. It's supposed to get you started on breeding but I only learned that within the past year and my second pet, Ribu isn't really worth breeding anyone with 9.9]

But yeah. It'll be triggered by random exploration like other triggered events like finding an egg or a possibly trapped box/crate. If you've been trying for a while now, go ahead and ping Krinadon. The coding for earlier zones is very old, messy, and buggy sometimes and I do see many bug threads on here about new users getting stuck in battles and on quests. I'm sure he could go in and see what's going on. Krin and Fai are currently working on complete revamps on most of the site, including a complete redo of the old zones to match the new ones [you'll see when you get to the new zones. It's much nicer than random exploration. Like the fest zone! ^.^]

For this quest, you actually don't trap a pet at all. It is a scripted event that only triggers in Trollsblight Cavern. Once the event triggers and you receive the pet, turn in the quest and then open the rewards satchel from your inventory to progress the tutorial.

I see. Well My friend said she got it for me, so now I should be able to buy the next slot right?
