Ok, so I was battling, then saw a sylesti I wanted to catch. On the window that shows all the battle stats, it said I defeated 0 sylestis, but the sylesti wasn't in my stables, or hatchery. What happened to the pet I caught?

Did you have room in your stables? It would have automatically been released if you didn't have any room.

Generally, if you have defeated 0 enemies and do not have the pet, it has fled the battle. There is also a weird glitch that can occur and cost you the sylesti but there is no way now to tell which occurred. Sorry for your loss.

I have been the unfortunate victim of this glitch before, sadly, which is how I know about it. Hope you do not run into it again ^_^

You can always verify what happened by reading the battle log after the turn. It will tell you if the trap succeeded and link to the pet's profile, or it will tell it that it failed and if it failed, whether or not the pet ran away.
You can always use this to verify the use of the trap. To this point, I've never had someone give me a screenshot of a success message, but no pet to go with it. So I'm fairly certain that there isn't a glitch.
