I forgot to do this before, but yesterday was my 1 year anniversary here on Sylestia!
Woo, such excite, much Sylestia!
I joined this game for something to derp around on during my slow days at work, never thinking I'd find such an awesome community of people. So I want to host a contest!!
So! I am going to be hosting a contest!
The Prizes for the contest include.... --A *tagged* Petal Garden Puffadore CLAIMED BY WAYCRAZY
--A Six-Vis Vulnyx
--500 diamonds CLAIMED BY FLUTE

-- A copy of "Black's Axe", which is a custom named version of the Aurora Borealis Staff -
You may enter this contest with a STORY or you may enter this contest with ART!
Option 1 - Story Entry
Write a story involving our avatars as characters! Are they old time friends? Just meeting? Deadly enemies? You decide! Stories should be the length of a 1-2 page word document (but posted here on the forum.). PLEASE check for spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc! If I find something unreadable due to too many errors, I will pass over it.
Option 2 - Art!
Draw our avatar characters together! Are they old time friends? Just meeting? Deadly enemies? You decide! ((If you are like me and cannot draw people, feel free to draw us as Sylestis instead!)) There is no separate category for traditional and digital.
How is this judged?
Simple! I will pick my three favorites from each category, and put the usernames in the random generator at random.org. The six winners will get to choose their prizes in the order that their names appear!
May I enter both categories?
I will never say no to more art or stories, but you can only have one entry.

"Avi-Black"'s general personality is pretty stone cold and emotionless at first, but he gets to be more open and goofy the more he knows someone. He can be pretty awkward. X3

Oooh~
I totally thought of a casual story visualizing what you do in the chatroom lol (gosh knows I just want to visualize you as the dude who slinks in the corner then explodes into [insert substance here] when you leave aha).
10/13/14: Finally finished! Complete with an unfitting title. ;w; I wanted to make it fancy with coding, but it would've surpassed the character limit, so...all dialogue is bolded at best.
I'm so sorry that it looks super long. ;n;
The Character in the Corner
The general chatroom in this world happens to be quite welcoming. For the most part, it's lit by the sun outside, so you can tell clearly what time it was in Sylestia. Tables and chairs decorated the chatroom floor, where users of different attire sat and chatted amongst each other.
You come in meekly with your Zolnixi beside you, looking to acquaint yourself with the different parts of Sylestia's realm, including this chatroom that is open for anyone. You were scared of people noticing your arrival, but most people seemed to be indulged in their own conversations with each other. At first, you're glad that you weren't noticed immediately, but then you were at a loss because you didn't know where to sit and when to initiate conversation, much less who to talk to first...
"Oh, hello," a young lady spoke. You looked behind to see that you were blocking the entrance for the young lady. Her hair was a light violet, but her clothes looked high class.
You then realized you were blocking her way. You apologize, trying to step to the side, but she doesn't immediately walk away.
"It's fine, I was just coming in as well. Are you new?" She must have been a regular to notice that you're a new face. "My name is Flute. Ah, I see you brought your Sylesti with you. Want to sit somewhere? We can get water for him."
You nod, and Flute guides you to a table. "Oh, hi Hunde, hi Ark!" The table happens to have two ladies sitting there already. They waved to Flute as you both pulled up chairs at the table. "This player is new to the chatroom, I'm going to get a water bowl for the nixi, alright?"
As your zolnixi sits by the foot of your chair, you look shyly at the other two girls across the table. Their attire is also different, and one even had wings on! Though, they still seemed welcoming.
"Welcome to Sylestia," one girl greeted with a smile. "I'm Hunde. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Or anyone in the chatroom, really."
The other girl, who you assume is Ark, nodded. "Oh, I see you have a zolnixi. He's quite handsome," she remarks.
You say thank you, as your Zolnixi nods, seeming to understand the compliment. You can remember spending a lot of time in the Generator, looking through each gene and mutation and trying to pick colors that all went well with each other.
"To be honest, my Starter sylesti has some blank colors under the genes and mutations," Hunde said. "I wasn't sure of what I was doing in the generator, but now I understand things better. All things come with time, I suppose."
You nod, because experience is only natural with time.
"Hmph."
You're not sure of what you just heard, but you thought you heard a man grunt as he passed by your table. You look up, and you see a tall man in a black robe slink by. The collars of his robe covered the sides of his face, so all you could see was his hair and dark red horns. Giant wings were folded around him, as if he wanted to keep to himself, but you are certain that it was him that grunted out of nowhere.
He gave off an intimidating aura, but you didn't know how to feel.
"Oh, Black! I didn't notice you come in til now!" Ark exclaimed. She turned around in her chair to greet the omminous man.
The man, who you presume is Black, sat in a dimly-lit corner. There was a leather armchair that seemed to make him look more intimidating as he sat in it. Once he sat, he grunted again, in Ark's direction. You could see his face, a pale face atop all the black attire, and it sported an uninterested smirk.
At the corner of your eye, you notice Flute come back with a water bowl. "Oh, Mr. Doom and Gloom over there?" She chuckles as she crouches down to place the bowl near your zolnixi. "He's nothing to be scared of. Black claims to be a jerk above us all, but he's actually a big softy."
You look at Black in the corner again, and he gives off another grunt.
"Oh, that grunt thing," Flute adds, "I don't really know about that, but don't mind him. I think he just wants to assert manliness...or something." Flute, Ark, and Hunde chuckle together, which makes you chuckle too. The dark character doesn't seem so dark when the regulars talk about him, but he still comes off as intimidating. You feel like it would be a scary experience talking to him, regardless of what the girls at the table think.
Your Zolnixi paws your leg. You noticed that it's probably a good time to get back into the meadows to continue your quest of fighting bandits. The Zolnixi seems to be refreshed after hydrating itself. You get up from the table, excusing yourself from the ladies.
"Oh, you're leaving now? Come back soon, we're always around," Flute said with a smile. Ark and Hunde smiled and waved, saying their goodbyes as well.
As you walk to exit out, you take one more peek at the dark man in the corner. Black still seemed uninterested in the chatroom, leaning his head on his hand as he stared out the window.
He shoots a glare directly at you from across the room, noticing that you were looking at him first. You could see the cold expression in his eyes, which sent a chill up your spine, and you immediately left with your zolnixi to tend to your quest.
--
You rush back to the chatroom with your zolnixi and an egg in your arms. The zolnixi was badly injured by a bandit's arrow while rescuing an egg in the wild, and you didn't have any gold to use for a healer. You hope that someone in the chatroom can help or give advice. When you open the door, you see that most of the chatroom's activity is in the corner. A bunch of girls are huddled in the corner, around the chair that the dark character from before was in. You remember his name is Black, but you can't actually see him.
"I KNOW that Black would look fabulous in a frilly dress with pink bows!"
"No! He'd look better in a dress with red bows! Don't you know that he wears red every day?"
"OBVIOUSLY you're wrong, a dress with RAINBOW dress AND glitter would make him perfect!"
"A hair-bow would make him so cute, I'd pet his head!"
As you come closer into view, you can see Black's horn and arm, struggling for space as the girls quarrel amongst each other right in his presence. Two girls from both sides leaned on the armrests of his chair, butting their heads right in front of Black. Several others stood behind them, also speaking over one another, arguing about what outfits would look good on him.
You approach the group in the corner, a bit intimidated by the current conversation. You swallow your unease, and speak up, asking if anyone can help you and your zolnixi.
The group of girls look up from their quarrel, and immediately see that the zolnixi in your arms was unconscious.
"Oh no! The poor zolnixi!"
"Oooh, an egg! Let me nurture it for you!"
The girls rush to you, gently taking the zolnixi and eggs from your arms. Two of them kneel down and bandage the zolnixi, while the other two take out cloths and blankets to polish the egg and keep it warm.
You look up again. Black slumped in his chair with a sigh. He shoots you a look of exhaustion. "Thanks, kid."
You step past the ladies that are taking care of your pet and egg, telling him that it's no problem, and ask why there was an argument about what dresses and bows he should be wearing.
"The hell if I know," he muttered. He scratched his head. "They're all dandy and whatnot when they're in the room together, but something happens when I come in and they all converge around my corner like it's a tea party. I don't mind it sometimes, but it's ridiculous."
You chuckle a little. You find the activity and company rather refreshing.
Black nodded. "Yeah, the ladies here in the chatroom are all good gals." He looked down at the girls aiding your pet's wounds. "Are you alright out there on the field? Your zolnixi looks like it took quite a hit."
Looking down at your zolnixi, you sigh, admitting that you were having a bit of a hard time in a battle against two bandits. It was hard trying to attack them both while they both attacked your nixi.
"Mm." Black sat up in his chair, scratching his beard. "Sin, come!"
Out of nowhere, a black lupora dashed to his side. The canine pet donned a scary white skull and was ribbed with white bones on its side and legs. You were taken aback by the lupora's sudden coming, but it immediately sat by Black's chair attentively.
"Good," Black briskly said, scratching his lupora's mane. Sin lowered his head, seeming to nod as he was scratched. You realize that Sin looked scary, but was well behaved, much like any pet.
"Look at Sin's build." Black started talking to you. "See, he's quite strong at his muscles here, only because I make sure to train him all the time." Black looked fondly over his pet, admiring Sin's strength from his muscles. "I also make sure to equip him with proper equipment when he's out. A full set of myrmidon-based equipment works for him. Does your pet have a full set of equipment?"
Equipment was hard to come by in the fields. At best, a relic was what you could provide for your zolnixi. Black nodded, looking in his robe and pulling out a small sack of gold, tossing it over to you.
"Look in the trade broker for equipment that suits your zolnixi. After he's healed, that is."
Both of you look down at your zolnixi. Though bandaged up, your zolnixi was now conscious, sitting in the lap of one of the girls. He looked up with you, ears perked up and tail slowly wagging.
"Make sure that you train your zolnixi to be stronger, before you go back out into the fields. It would only benefit both you and him."
You give Black a small nod. A small smile, closer to a smirk, appeared on his face as he nods in reply. You figure that you should be going back to Esior, to buy some elixirs and check the broker for equipment.
"If you need any help, don't hesistate to ask," Black said firmly. You could tell that he was serious in this offer, but deep in his dark red eyes, he had good intentions. "Also...thanks for saving me from those girls. Really. I don't know what gets into them..." You grin, remembering the silly arguments before about dresses and bows, much to Black's discomfort.
"Aww, you're leaving now?"
"Be good out there, don't be a stranger!"
The ladies from before came back to greet you, giving you back the egg and letting the zolnixi get back up on its legs. You thank them for reviving your nixi and nurturing your egg.
"It's no problem! We're glad to help."
"Speaking of problems...where were we..."
The girls slowly turned to Black, with devilish grins.
"Oh yeah, what dress suits Black best..."
Black's eyes widened, and Sin immediately dashed out, probably because it wasn't his problem.
"Err...thanks...but I should get going..."
He stood up in his chair, and before the girls could grab onto him to tell him to stay, a snap of his fingers made him explode.
Into confetti.
You were a bit surprised about how such a dark figure could explode into colorful pieces, but the girls giggled to each other.
"Oh, we just missed him, it seems." You turn around and see familiar figures from before. Flute and Hunde walk into the room, laughing as they kick aside the confetti. "He tends to do that...a little too much. At least it's confetti, and not something that stains the walls."
You look at the corner again. Even though it's dimly lit, you can see splatters of different substances, mostly unrecognizable stains, all over the wall. You didn't even notice that even the chair was a bit dirty with debris.
"Black likes to have a big exit, as much as a big entrance. He's here every day." Flute shakes her head with a smile, and Hunde patted her on the back. "At least he's a different character that adds flavor to the chatroom."
You nod. Black certainly isn't a dark and scary person, even if he's dressed as one. You kind of look forward to seeing him again, partly to see what else he'd explode into, but also to ask for more advice.

Whatever kind of story you can imagine, Miss Flute. And sure, other users are always welcome in the stories, just make sure you get their permission first :D
And now that I think about it, I should really clean that corner... I've exploded many times... I'm sure it's filthy.

Hmmrhng awkward shuffling.
This looks really interesting and I've been trying to get back into writing lately because wow, writing is really awesome. That being said, I feel like I'm going to mangle your character into a floppy lopsided caricature of a being. I guess what I'm looking for here is a "no hard feelings," guarantee if the story is a shockingly poor representation of your character. So, yes. That. Also, is that a firm one to two pages, or kind of a mushy "probably but maybe not your choice," one to two. I tend to write and would be a bit bummed if I ended up having a story rejected because "tl;dr." (For future reference; pinging, yay or nay?)

Since you liked the little Esme stories so much... :D
Black Magic
"A festival to celebrate dark magics. Who would have thought of that?"
Picking up a large clothe doll, Esme held it out at arms length, arching a brow. "The man who had that flaming sword, maybe. Black, look at this thing! Its terrifying. Slightly adorable." Grinning, she turned it so the blue, soul-devouring button eyes were pointed at him. "I think it would make a cute little friend." Glancing towards the sign on the shelf, she snickered. "Ohh, it even comes with its own shrunken head. Good grief."
Setting the doll back on the shelf she tentatively picked up the shrunken head by its hair, lifting it to eye level and squinting at it. She really hoped it wasn't someones actual head. "Now, what was I talking about before?"
"Your teacher?"
Smiling in thanks, she nodded at him. "Right. Poor Alexander had his hands full with me. Still does," she giggled. "I was a terror as a child. Utterly adorable, though. I wish you could have seen me back then. You think I'm feisty now, at least I've learned how to control my temper. Mostly." Winking up at him, she didn't see the shrunken heads lips curl up in a slow smile.
Wish granted...
---
He was burning alive. Eyes snapping open only to be blinded by the brilliance of the sun, Black rolled onto his front, groaning. Too hot, why was it so hot? They hadn't hit the warmer territories yet. Was Esme being a furnace again? Slitting his eyes open, he stared down at the white ground beneath him. Hot white. Snow wasn't hot. Fingers curling in it, he recognized it from the description Esme had given him. Sand. The kind of earth that covered her home.
"Esme?"
Was that really his voice? It sounded awful, even for him. Like all the moisture had been sucked out of him. It kind of felt like it, too. This was miserable, he needed snow. Ice. Wonderful, crunchy ice. Cold. How had Esme survived the cold, if this was what it was like for her?
"How do you know my name, mister?"
Slowly lifting his head, Black stared at the little girl crouched in front of him. What? He hadn't said her name. He'd called for Esme, and Esme was not a little girl. Slowly pushing himself upright, Black coughed and looked around. He needed out of this sun, he could feel his skin burning. Esme had been right, he was going to be bright red if he stayed out here.
"I don't. I said Esme."
"Yeah...thats my name. Are you a kidnapper? Ill light you on fire if you are mister, so don't even think about it!"
Watching the little girl surge to her feet, her wings that he hadn't taken note of flaring behind her, Black grew extremely confused. Did Esme have a little sister? No, shed said she was an only child. A daughter? No, this girl looked to be ten or twelve. Too old for Esme to have born her. They were practically identical, though. The wings, the whipping tail, that stubborn look...What about the horns, though? Squinting, he could barely see two little nubs poking from the top of her head. Hadn't Esme said that people like her were rare? How could there be two?
"You have horns, too! But yours are so much longer and prettier...like Alexanders! Do you know Alexander? He didn't tell me he had a brother. Mister, can I touch your horns? Alexander said my horns will grow long and pretty one day. I'm so jealooooous," the little girl breathed as her wings folded behind her again and she walked forward, plopping down fearlessly in front of him and reaching out, tentatively touching the front of his horns before drawing her hand back and pouting. "You can barely see mine. I want big, pretty ones like yours."
Hadn't Esme told him something about wanting long horns as a child? Dear gods, this really was her. But how? He'd been in that strange shop with Esme one minute, then woke up here with Esme as a child, apparently.
"Mister? Are you okay? You look kind of red, do you have heat stroke? I cant get heat stroke, cause I'm always hot. I can make fire! Want to see?" Excited, she stuck her hand out, then paused. "But Alexander said I don't have enough control to do it around other people yet..." Glancing around guiltily, she grinned the next moment. "He wont know, though!"
In the next moment the world exploded, flames appearing not just in front of his face but all around him. His lips twisted in a snarl as he tried to gather cold around him, willing his ice to manifest as quickly as Esme could her fire.
---
"Ouch! You idiot, are you trying to freeze my fingers off?"
Eyes flaring open once again, Black blinked slowly up at Esme. Adult Esme, thank goodness. Glancing around, he realized he was back in the shop. "...I'm on the floor." The gloriously cold floor that he had the sudden urge to roll around on. Lifting a hand, his lips curled in a goofy grin to see pale, non-burnt skin.
"Right...you hit your head pretty hard there, didn't you? You passed out all the sudden. You should have told me if you were so terrified of dolls."
She was teasing him. Snorting, Black pushed himself into an upright position, rubbing the back of his head. It did feel like he had hit it pretty good."I guess its a good thing I'm thick-skulled," he muttered, pausing his inspection of the back of his head when his fingertips brushed the back of his horns.
"Hey, Esme?"
"Mmmm?"
"I like your little horns. They're cute."
Blinking slowly down at Black, Esme lifted a hand to her horns self-consciously, heat pooling in her cheeks. Damn it, she did not blush. Idiot man. "Good, because I finished growing years ago. It was the one thing Alexander ever lied to me about." Glaring at him, she reached out and flicked his giant horns. "I would have killed for horns like yours when I was little."
Remembering the blast of fire in his face, Black grimaced. "I'm sure you would have."

I'd enter this but my drawing abilities are a total of stick figures.
And while I love writing I'm stuck on BL stories right now.
So awesome of you to be but less you wish some crazy BL story (because my avatar is actually the male baseXD) I shall just observe

I'm so going to enter this, it looks super fun (and the prizes are AWESOME).
But I have a quick question for you about avi-Black, what's his sexuality? and how does he feel about other sexualities? (I promise my story isn't going to have too much romance, just a little)
