I have it right now so bad.

I applied for the Army back in January and it's been a pretty lengthy application process but in a couple of days I'm travelling to the city to go do my interview/psychological testing and stuff, and right now I just want to hide under my collection of teddies and cry like a baby. This always happens when I'm going to do something significant, I always freak out at the last minute and wish I'd never begun it in the first place, it's a really overwhelming feeling.

I was so confident in the beginning but it's probably pretty obvious that I'm not emotionally tough at all; I get scared and upset easily and half the time I cry when someone gets mad or yells at me. Being emotionally tough of course is one of the core values of the Defence Force so you're pretty useless to them if you're an emotional cripple. I'm way too soft by their standards.

I kind of want to back out but I don't want to disappoint everyone or have wasted anyone's time, but I guess either way I'm kind of wasting their time. I guess the best I can do is bring it up to the psychologist and see what they say. Part of the idea of this part of the process is to see if you're suited to join the Defence Force and I think they'll catch on pretty quick that I'm probably not.

So anyway, any of you guys ever get that last minute panic and what do you do about it?

Hey don't worry! Put on your brave face and face your fears!
Things like this won't be a waste of everyone's time!
This might sound a bit mean, but it's just your nerves getting in the way and from what you wrote...you want to join the army, correct? So you have just got to push your nerves to the side and just try out!

If it doesn't work out then no worries! There could be lots of other things you could do and it might also be the Spirits of the world telling you the army isn't for you!
So don't panic okay?

Think about what YOU want to do, not what your nerves are telling you not to do but what YOU personally want to do...

Want to join the army? Just do it! You have nothing to fear!

I always push my nerves to the side if there is something I want to do, like the first time I dangled upside down from high up in a tree...yes I was scared I would slip but I did it and was fine! ( But don't do if your not good at climbing trees! )

Nah it doesn't sound mean, you're probably right :) I need to try and calm myself down. I'm actually feeling a little better already but I'm not sure how I'm gonna go when I get there. Just do my best and hope for the best ^^; I've wanted to join since I was around 9 years old but my views and understanding of it have changed a lot since then.

I usually go with what feels right, like if it feels like I should do something I'll do it, if it feels like maybe it's a bad idea I normally won't. Applying for the Army felt like both a good and bad idea at the same time so I just went ahead and did it xD I really would like to join the army but at the same time I don't know if I can cope with the conditions. But like you said, even if it doesn't work out I guess there's always other stuff I could do ^-^ thanks for your positive words.

Oh no, not the trees D: once when I was 15 I fell out of a tree, carved up my knee and ended up with a staph infection. That tree did not want to be climbed :P

Ah...well I would just ignore if it's a bad or good idea and just try
If you get in and don't like it, don't worry!

And ooww >_> I have never had anything like that happen to me...apart from falling in a empty pool as a toddler...

Hey, I know how you feel! When you actually DO it, you realize-why was I so worked up about it? That happens a lot to me... Join the army if that's what you want! What will stop you? It's your choice. You're already this far. GO fir it!

An empty pool? Ouch D;

Thanks you two :) I'm still gonna go for it and just see how I do. I think you can actually back out during training if you get accepted if you decide that the demands and lifestyle don't really work for you, so I suppose at least they give you that option in case you really can't handle it :3 but we'll see how I go.
